The United Arab Emirates has ordered all schools to shift to remote learning for the rest of the week following a series of attacks it says originated from Iran. In a statement, the education ministry said classes would move online from Tuesday through Friday as a precautionary measure.

“The Ministry of Education announces a decision to shift to a remote learning system starting from Tuesday, May 5, 2026, until Friday, May 8, 2026,” the statement read.

US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying it would face devastating consequences if it targets US vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz under “Project Freedom.”

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if it attacks American ships involved in the mission, which aims to secure safe passage through the critical waterway.

“We have more weapons and ammunition at a much higher grade than we had before,” Trump told Fox News’ Trey Yingst. “We have the best equipment. We have stuff all over the world. We have these bases all over the world. They’re all stocked up with equipment. We can use all of that stuff, and we will, if we need it.”
 

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country reserves its “full and legitimate right” to respond following Iranian missile and drone attacks. In a statement, the ministry condemned the strikes as “treacherous” and described them as a serious escalation that poses a direct threat to the country’s security.
 

The Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi said three Indian nationals were injured in the attacks in Fujairah and are receiving care.

“We are in touch with local authorities for ensuring adequate medical care and welfare of the affected Indian nationals,” the embassy said in a post on X.

The United Arab Emirates is facing a second wave of drone and missile attacks from Iran within an hour, according to the Emirati Defence Ministry. Authorities said air raid sirens were activated across the country as air defence systems responded to incoming threats.

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of launching four cruise missiles at its territory, with air defences intercepting three and the fourth falling into the sea, according to the defence ministry. In a series of updates, the ministry said its air defence systems engaged incoming threats and that explosions heard across the country were the result of interceptions.

Authorities also confirmed a fire at the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone, the UAE’s key port on the Gulf of Oman that operates outside the Strait of Hormuz, though it did not immediately link the blaze directly to the missile strike.

Earlier in the day, residents were advised to take shelter following missile and drone alerts, before authorities later issued an all-clear message.
 

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority has issued a fresh missile alert, warning that air defence systems are responding to a potential threat. The alert, sent to mobile phones across the United Arab Emirates, urged residents to remain in safe locations and follow official instructions, according to witness accounts cited by news agencies. 

Earlier in the day, the UAE had issued the missile alert. It was the first such alert ⁠issued ​by the ​authorities since early April.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has rejected US claims that two merchant vessels recently crossed the Strait of Hormuz, calling the assertion false.

In a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC said no commercial ships or tankers had passed through the waterway in recent hours. “Claims by US officials are baseless and complete lies,” the statement said.

Earlier, CENTCOM claimed, "2 US-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely headed on their journey."

The Israel Defense Forces has issued evacuation warnings for six additional villages in southern Lebanon ahead of planned airstrikes targeting Hezbollah. Residents of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Mayfadoun, Qalaouiyah, Burj Qalaouiyah, al-Majadel and Srifa have been told to move at least one kilometre away from their homes as a precaution.

“In light of the Hezbollah terror organization’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, the IDF is forced to act against it with force and does not intend to harm you,” army spokesman Avichay Adraee said.

South Korea is investigating reports that one of its vessels may have been hit in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Yonhap News Agency. A government official said there were no reported casualties so far but added that authorities are “verifying the exact facts”.

The vessel is believed to be a bulk carrier operated by HMM. A fire broke out after an explosion occurred in the engine room, but it remains unclear whether it was caused by an external attack or an internal issue.

US President Donald Trump rejected a more aggressive military plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, choosing instead to continue with the current US operation in the region, according to Axios.

The report said Trump was frustrated with the ongoing stalemate — a situation marked by neither active war nor a clear agreement to end the fighting — but stopped short of approving a plan that could have triggered direct confrontation with Iran.

The proposal, presented by Brad Cooper, involved sending US Navy vessels through the strait and responding with force to any Iranian missiles or boats. It also included provisions to escalate into a broader conflict if Iran attacked Gulf countries. Despite rejecting the plan, a source close to Trump told Axios the current operation could still lead to tensions escalating.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington is watching whether China will step up diplomatic engagement with Iran to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking to Fox News, Bessent said the United States would urge China to support efforts to restore navigation through the critical waterway, which has been disrupted amid the ongoing conflict.
 

Gulf Cooperation Council has strongly condemned what it described as an Iranian attack on an Emirati oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a threat to maritime security. Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Badawi said the vessel was struck by two suicide drones while in transit through the strategic waterway.

“The continuation of these brutal Iranian attacks by targeting ships passing through the strait is piracy and serious extortion of the security of sea lanes and straits,” al-Badawi said in a statement published on the GCC’s website.

He added: “His excellency expressed the GCC’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its support in all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security and stability.”

The United Arab Emirates issued a missile alert for the first time since the US-Iran ceasefire, briefly warning residents of a potential threat before declaring the situation safe. An emergency phone notification sent across the country urged people to seek immediate shelter and await further instructions, according to witness accounts cited by news agencies.

Minutes later, authorities issued a second message, informing residents in Dubai that the situation was “now safe” and that normal activities could resume.

United States Central Command said two US-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and are continuing their journey safely. The development comes as Washington rolls out a naval mission dubbed “Project Freedom” aimed at restoring commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.

In a statement on X, CENTCOM said guided-missile destroyers were deployed to ensure safe passage, adding that US forces are “actively assisting efforts to restore transit for commercial shipping”.

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains largely stalled despite a US pledge to increase traffic and ease movement through the critical waterway, according to tracking data, cited by news agency Reuters. Data from MarineTraffic showed that only one sanctioned, handy-sized LPG tanker, along with a few cargo vessels and a cable-laying ship, entered the Gulf of Oman during the day.

There were no signs of tankers or other commercial vessels lining up to transit the strait. German shipping group Hapag-Lloyd said transit for its vessels remains impossible due to a lack of clarity around security procedures in the area.

A senior United Arab Emirates official has warned that Iran’s threat to regional stability “cannot be ignored” after an Emirati commercial vessel was targeted in the Strait of Hormuz. “The Iranian aggression continues unabated, with acts of maritime piracy,” presidential adviser Anwar Gargash wrote on X.

“The UAE’s stance remains steadfast in rejecting aggression and upholding freedom of navigation in this vital international passage.”

The remarks come after reports that Iran targeted an Emirati-linked ship with drones, adding to rising tensions around the strategic waterway, a key route for global energy supplies.

Iran has executed three men convicted over unrest linked to January protests, according to the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency. The men — Mehdi Rassouli, Mohammad Reza Miri and Ebrahim Dolatabadi — were sentenced over their involvement in demonstrations in the eastern city of Mashhad. Authorities did not specify the exact timing or location of the executions.

However, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported that Rassouli, 25, and Miri, 21, were hanged at dawn on Sunday at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has ruled out any negotiations with Israel until attacks on southern Lebanon stop, despite a ceasefire. He told An-Nahar newspaper, that the priority must be “stopping the war before any political track,” adding he would not support talks without guarantees that Israel would halt its strikes.

His position reflects growing divisions within Lebanon’s leadership. Berri’s Amal movement has aligned with Hezbollah in opposing direct talks between Israeli officials and Joseph Aoun, complicating efforts to advance diplomacy in a country with a long history of internal conflict.

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of attacking an oil tanker linked to ADNOC with drones as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities said the vessel, Barakah, was empty when it was hit by two drones, and no injuries were reported. ADNOC’s maritime logistics unit confirmed the incident.

"The UAE further stressed the need for Iran to halt these unprovoked attacks, ensure its full commitment to an immediate cessation of all hostilities, and the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," the foreign ministry said.

Iran has restricted movement through the strait since the start of US and Israeli strikes, warning it could target unauthorised vessels. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations earlier said a tanker had been hit by unknown projectiles about 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah.

Hezbollah fired an anti-tank guided missile at Israeli forces stationed in southern Lebanon overnight, the military said, adding that no injuries were reported in the attack.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said troops subsequently struck the launch site, while the Israeli Air Force targeted additional infrastructure in the area where members of the group were operating.

Separately, the IDF said troops from the 7th Armored Brigade killed at least 10 Hezbollah gunmen in their area of operations over the past two days.

According to a report by Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, Hamas members in the Gaza Strip have completed voting in internal elections and elected Khaled Mashaal as the overall leader of the movement, also known as the head of its political bureau.

The report added that Khalil al-Hayya has been elected as Hamas leader in Gaza, while Zaher Jabareen has been chosen to head the group in the West Bank.

Iran executed three men involved in anti-government protests that took place nationwide in January, local media reported on Monday.

Hezbollah has said it carried out 11 operations over the past 24 hours, using drones, rockets and artillery against Israeli troops in southern Lebanon. In a statement on Telegram, the group said the attacks were conducted “in defense of Lebanon and its people” and in response to what it described as Israel’s continued strikes on civilians, despite a US-brokered ceasefire.

The Israel Defense Forces said that incoming rocket sirens that sounded earlier in towns near the Lebanon border were triggered by a “false identification.” Authorities clarified that no actual rocket fire was detected, and the alerts were activated due to a misidentification.

The Trump administration has approved $8.6 billion in emergency arms sales to Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates by bypassing Congress, citing urgent security concerns. The package includes advanced air defence systems such as Patriot missiles and precision strike capabilities. The State Department justified the move by pointing to emergency circumstances following February’s joint US-Israeli attack on Iran, after which Tehran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military bases.

The new initiative in the Strait of Hormuz is not expected to involve US Navy ships directly escorting commercial vessels, according to Axios reporter.

Instead, US naval forces will remain nearby and be ready to intervene if needed, particularly to deter or respond to any potential attacks by Iran on ships passing through the strait.

A tanker has reported being struck by unidentified projectiles while sailing about 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Monday.

Amid the Middle East conundrum, US President Donald Trump has poured cold water on Iran’s latest peace proposal, dismissing it as "not acceptable". He turned down Tehran’s 14-point framework, which aims to shift the current ceasefire into a more durable settlement.

Friedrich Merz said he will continue working with Donald Trump despite recent tensions over the war in Iran.

“I am not giving up on working on the transatlantic relationship. Nor am I giving up on working with Donald Trump,” Merz told public broadcaster ARD in an interview.

Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares held a phone call to discuss developments related to the war and bilateral relations, according to a statement from Tehran.

Araghchi briefed the Spanish foreign minister on Iran’s strategic efforts to end the conflict through diplomacy, aimed at securing lasting stability in the region.
The exchange reflects continued diplomatic engagement as countries explore ways to de-escalate tensions and move towards a negotiated settlement.

Israeli forces have targeted multiple towns in southern Lebanon, with artillery shelling reported in Haris and tank fire hitting Mansouri, according to Lebanese state media. The National News Agency said Haris was subjected to ongoing artillery fire, as Israeli operations continued in the area.

In a separate incident, Mansouri was struck earlier by several shells fired from an Israeli Merkava tank positioned in the Al-Bayada area.

US President Donald Trump has described Iran’s latest proposal as “unacceptable”, according to remarks reported by Israeli outlet Kan News. “I’ve studied it, I’ve studied everything – it’s not acceptable,” Trump reportedly told Kan News after reviewing the proposal.
 

Iran says it has received a response from the United States to its 14-point proposal, delivered via Pakistan, and is currently reviewing it, according to state media reports.

“At this stage, we do not have nuclear negotiations,” an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson said.

United States Central Command says 49 commercial vessels have been redirected as part of efforts to enforce the ongoing blockade of Iranian ports. The update came as CENTCOM confirmed that its commander, Brad Cooper, visited the guided-missile destroyer USS Milius while it was patrolling regional waters in support of the operation.
 
“As of today, 49 commercial vessels have been redirected to comply with blockade. US forces remain fully committed to total enforcement,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

An international tracking platform says 25 oil tankers carrying crude departed Iran in April, offering a snapshot of how shipments are moving despite heightened enforcement at sea. According to TankerTrackers.com, seven of those vessels were redirected back to Iran by the United States after entering the Arabian Sea, while two were seized in the Indian Ocean. The report adds that one tanker managed to reach the Far East.

Most of the remaining vessels — 15 in total — completed their journeys to intended destinations, having set sail during the first half of April.

Kuwait expects its oil production to rise to 2.6 million barrels per day (bpd) in June, even as exports remain constrained by ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The country’s oil minister said the increase aligns with a broader move by OPEC+, where seven member states agreed to raise output targets by 188,000 bpd next month. The decision marks the third consecutive monthly increase by the group.

Kuwait did not export any crude last month — the first such instance since the Gulf War.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health says the death toll from Israeli attacks across the country has reached 2,679 over the past two months. According to the ministry, the strikes carried out between March 2 and May 3 have also left 8,229 people injured.
 

Iran has presented a three-step proposal to the United States aimed at moving from a ceasefire towards an end to the war, with fresh details pointing to major concessions on its nuclear programme. According to Al Jazeera, the plan includes a 15-year freeze on uranium enrichment as part of its second phase.

Under the proposal, Iran would halt enrichment activities for 15 years in phase 2, before resuming at a capped level of 3.6 percent, while committing not to stockpile enriched uranium. Existing enriched material would either be transferred abroad or diluted for civilian use. However, Tehran has rejected demands from Washington to completely dismantle its nuclear infrastructure or destroy facilities.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said he urged Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and abandon its nuclear programme after speaking with his Iranian counterpart. “As a close US ally we share the same goal: Iran must completely and verifiably renounce nuclear weapons and immediately release the Strait of Hormuz as (US) Secretary (of State Marco) Rubio also demands,” he wrote on X.

The comments come as Donald Trump criticises European leaders, including Friedrich Merz, over their stance on Iran.
 

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says it has received a report of a maritime incident approximately 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, involving a commercial vessel navigating northbound. According to the agency, the master of a bulk carrier reported that the ship came under attack from multiple small craft. Details on the nature of the assault remain limited.

UKMTO said all crew members aboard the vessel are safe, with no injuries reported. 

The latest report adds to a growing list of attacks and near-misses involving commercial vessels operating in the region. In recent weeks, ships have reported being targeted by projectiles, drones or approached by armed small boats amid ongoing naval blockade.

The Israeli military says its forces have uncovered a large cache of weapons linked to Hezbollah during operations in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), more than 100 items were recovered in the Rashaf area, including Kalashnikov-type rifles, sniper rifles, around 20 rockets and other combat equipment.

The army said the weapons were located by troops from the 401st Brigade as part of ongoing activity in southern Lebanon. The discovery adds to a series of recent operations aimed at locating and removing armed infrastructure in the region.

Iran has outlined additional elements of a proposed roadmap aimed at ending hostilities with the United States, setting out a phased approach that links nuclear activity, sanctions relief and regional security arrangements.

Under the first phase of the proposal, it would gradually open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US siege on Iranian ports. Tehran would take charge of dealing with sea mines.

In the second phase, Tehran would resume uranium enrichment at 3.6 percent after a specified time period, in line with what it describes as a “zero-storage principle”. The framework also calls for mutual restraint, with the US and Israel refraining from attacks on Iran and its allies, in exchange for Tehran halting its own strikes.

The proposal makes clear that Iran is not willing to dismantle its nuclear infrastructure or destroy existing facilities. In a third phase, Tehran proposes opening a broader strategic dialogue with neighbouring Arab states. The aim would be to develop a region-wide security framework that includes countries across the Middle East, signalling a shift towards long-term stabilisation beyond the immediate conflict.
 

A Palestinian man was killed and four others were injured during an Israeli military operation in the West Bank city of Nablus, according to Palestinian health authorities. The Palestinian Authority’s health ministry identified the man as 26-year-old Naif Firas Ziad Samaro.

In a statement, the Israeli military said its troops came under attack during the operation, with several Palestinians throwing stones at forces on the ground.

“The forces responded with crowd dispersal measures and later with live fire to remove the threat and disperse the gathering,” the military said, adding that “several hits were identified.”

The OPEC+ has moved ahead with a planned increase in oil production, even as it avoided any reference to the recent exit of the United Arab Emirates from the alliance.

In a statement, key members including Saudi Arabia and Russia, along with five other producers, confirmed they will raise output quotas in what appears to be an effort to project stability within the group. The seven countries said they would collectively add 188,000 barrels per day to their production targets for June. The increase, they noted, reflects “their collective commitment to support oil market stability,” suggesting a coordinated approach despite recent developments within the bloc.

The Israeli military says Hezbollah launched a series of rockets and explosive drones at its troops stationed in southern Lebanon, with blasts reported near the forces but no injuries recorded. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the projectiles landed close to deployed units earlier in the day, raising concerns over renewed hostilities in the region. Despite the proximity of the explosions, the military said no personnel were harmed.

In a separate development, the IDF said it fired an interceptor missile at a suspected Hezbollah drone flying over an area where troops are currently positioned in southern Lebanon.

Spain has called for the “immediate release” of a Spanish-Palestinian activist detained by Israeli forces after being taken from a Gaza-bound aid vessel. The demand came from Spain’s Foreign Ministry after Israeli authorities extended the activist’s detention by two days following a court hearing.

“The government of Spain demands his immediate release,” the ministry said in a statement shared with AFP.

According to officials, the activist, identified as Saif Abu Keshek, was taken into custody on Thursday when Israeli forces intercepted the vessel, part of a humanitarian flotilla heading towards Gaza.

At least one person has died and three others, including a child, have suffered injuries after an Israeli air strike targeted the municipality of Arab Salim in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district. The information was confirmed by Lebanon’s Health Ministry in a statement reported by the state-run National News Agency.

OPEC+ members are set to meet again on June 7, according to a draft statement, to review output strategy amid the ongoing Iran war. The meeting will include Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Oman. The group is expected to reassess supply conditions as the Strait of Hormuz closure continues to distort global oil trade flows and pricing stability.

OPEC+ crude production averaged 35.06 million barrels per day in March, marking a steep decline of 7.70 million barrels from February. The drop has been largely attributed to export constraints caused by the Iran war. Iraq and Saudi Arabia recorded the biggest reductions as shipping disruptions and infrastructure pressure limited their ability to move crude into global markets.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has become a critical bottleneck in global energy markets, delaying any meaningful recovery in oil flows. Even if hostilities ease, Gulf oil executives and traders estimate that restoring normal shipping could take weeks or months. The disruption has affected key exporters including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the UAE, tightening global crude availability.

An Iranian supertanker carrying oil valued at approximately USD 220 million has reportedly managed to give the US-imposed blockde in the Strait of Hormuz a slip, according to TankerTrackers.

"A National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) VLCC supertanker carrying over 1.9 million barrels (valued at nearly $220 million dollars) of crude oil has managed to evade the U.S. Navy and reach the Far East," TankerTrackers wrote on X on Sunday.

According to reports, the vessel was most recently spotted near Sri Lanka. That sighting was from more than a week ago. It is now said to be passing through Indonesia’s Lombok Strait toward the Riau Islands.

According to maritime tracking data, the supertanker has not broadcast any Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals since March 20, which was the day when it left the Strait of Malacca en route to Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday shared a video, claiming it shows a "loaded and ready-to-launch launcher" being struck by the Israeli air force in southern Lebanon.

Tehran's latest 14-point proposal shared with the US includes the withdrawal of American forces from areas surrounding Iran, lifting the blockade, releasing Iran’s frozen assets, payment of compensation, lifting sanctions and ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, as well as a new control mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media.

Later, US president Donald Trump has said he will review a fresh proposal from Iran but signalled strong skepticism, stating that Tehran “has not yet paid a big enough price” for its actions over decades.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that he would soon examine the plan sent by Iran, though he added it was difficult to imagine the proposal being acceptable.

Kuwait exported zero barrels of crude oil in April 2026, marking the first such occurrence since the end of the Gulf War, according to tanker-tracking website TankerTrackers.com.

The report said that while Kuwait continues to produce oil—diverting some to storage and refining, with certain refined products still exported—no crude shipments left the country during the month due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a disruption not seen since 1991.

The foreign ministers of Iran and France held a phone call on Sunday, discussing regional and international developments linked to the US-Israel war on Iran, according to a statement from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s office.

Araghchi briefed his French counterpart on Tehran’s strategic efforts to end the conflict, while French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot reiterated France’s support for ongoing diplomatic talks and voiced hope for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Saturday that its troops damaged a “religious building” in southern Lebanon, prompting criticism from a Catholic charity that identified the site as a convent and condemned the strike as a “deliberate” attack on a place of worship.

According to the military, forces operating in the village of Yaroun caused damage to a structure within a religious compound while dismantling what it described as “terrorist infrastructure” in the area, Al Jazeera reported.
