Iran's National Security Chief Ali Larijani was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted a residence in Pardi area where he had gone to visit his daughter along with his son Murtaza, who was also believed to have been killed. The funeral procession was held in Iran with large crowds in attendance. The Israeli Defence Minister announced the strike, which was later confirmed by Iranian media and the Supreme National Security Council. Apart from Ali Larijani, Basij chief Ghulam Reza Soleimani was also killed in strikes targeting Iran's top military and political leadership. Israel has been systematically targeting Iran's leadership in an attempt to weaken the country. The funeral procession also included 84 Iranian naval sailors who died in a submarine strike in the Indian Ocean region. Reports indicate that around 100 people have been rounded up on spying charges in a crackdown by Basij and IRGC troops. Ali Larijani was considered a key figure in diplomatic and nuclear negotiations and a close aide to Iran's Supreme Leader.
