Honda 0 Alpha: Honda's first electric SUV for India explained in pics

Honda Cars India has officially begun road testing of its first upcoming electric SUV for the Indian market, the 0 Alpha, marking a major step in the brand’s electrification roadmap in the country. The company flagged off a pan-India test programme for the prototype from its manufacturing facility in Tapukara on March 16, initiating an extensive public-road verification phase to evaluate the vehicle under diverse Indian driving conditions.
 

Visually, the concept features a futuristic design language defined by integrated digital lighting elements.

At the front, the headlights, charging port lid and illuminated Honda emblem are housed within a unified digital panel, creating a clean and high-tech fascia. The front section also incorporates a prominent lower chin that flows into thick body cladding along the sides, giving the SUV a rugged stance.
 

The concept rides on aerodynamic 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels housed within pronounced wheel arches.

At the rear, the design is highlighted by a full-width U-shaped lighting signature that frames the rear windscreen. The tail-light assembly integrates the turn indicators and reverse lights within a continuous lighting panel, while an oversized faux bash plate on the bumper houses additional light units.
 

While official specifications have not yet been confirmed, the electric SUV is expected to offer either a 60kWh or 70kWh battery pack aimed at delivering competitive real-world driving range. At launch, the model is likely to feature a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration.
 

With India set to serve as both a production and export hub, the upcoming EV is expected to play a crucial role in Honda’s long-term electrification strategy across global markets.

Despite its sleek and low-slung silhouette, the SUV has been designed to retain sufficient ground clearance for Indian road conditions. Honda’s packaging strategy also allows a compact exterior footprint while maintaining a spacious cabin for occupants.
 

The real-world testing programme will focus on assessing durability, handling, ride comfort, efficiency and overall reliability across a wide range of environments, including highways, congested urban roads and rough terrain.
