Tesla launches long-wheelbase six-seater Model Y L in India at Rs 61.99 lakh
Tesla has introduced the long-wheelbase Tesla Model Y in India, adding a three-row layout, all-wheel drive capability and extended range to enhance its appeal as a premium family EV.

Tesla has expanded its India portfolio with the introduction of a new long wheelbase version of the Tesla Model Y, priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Positioned as a more family-focused offering, the new Model Y L brings a three-row, six-seat configuration to the lineup, making it the only variant in India to offer a 2+2+2 seating layout.
A bigger, more versatile Model Y
The headline update is the extended wheelbase, now measuring 3,040mm which is 150mm longer than the standard version. This translates into improved cabin space, especially for second- and third-row occupants. Overall length has also grown to 4,969mm, while height sees a slight increase, further enhancing headroom.
Despite the added size, the Model Y L retains Tesla’s clean design language. Subtle changes such as longer rear doors, a revised roofline with larger rear quarter glass, and a more prominent rear spoiler distinguish it from the regular model. Signature full-width LED lighting elements continue unchanged.
Performance and range gains
Unlike the rear-wheel-drive versions already on sale, the Model Y L introduces a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup to the Indian market. While Tesla hasn’t officially disclosed detailed output figures, global-spec models suggest an 85kWh battery pack paired with roughly 456bhp and 590Nm of torque.
Performance remains brisk, with a claimed 0-100kmph sprint of 5.0 seconds. The WLTP-certified range stands at 681km, making it the longest-range Model Y currently available in India. Fast-charging capability is another highlight, with up to 288km of range claimed in just 15 minutes via Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Interior upgrades focus on comfort
Inside, the Model Y L sticks to Tesla’s minimalist design philosophy but adds more premium touches for passenger comfort. The cabin is centered around a 16-inch touchscreen, complemented by an 8-inch display for second-row passengers.
The second row features captain seats with ventilation, heating, powered armrests and one-touch folding. The third row also gets powered recline, dedicated air vents and easy-fold functionality. Additional upgrades include a more advanced audio system with a subwoofer, along with improved seat comfort for front occupants.
Other features such as a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, connected car tech, multiple cameras, and heated elements for seats, steering and windshield remain part of the package.
Designed for family and long-distance use
With a claimed cargo capacity of up to 2,539 litres and a focus on ride comfort through updated suspension and adaptive damping, the Model Y L is clearly aimed at buyers seeking a practical yet premium electric SUV for daily use as well as long journeys.
Availability and expansion plans
Bookings for the Model Y L are now open across India, with deliveries expected to begin from June 2026. Customers can experience the vehicle at Tesla’s showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram starting April 23.
Alongside the launch, Tesla is also scaling up its charging and service network in India, with plans to expand Supercharger coverage across major cities and highways in the near future.
With the addition of the long wheelbase variant, Tesla has broadened the appeal of the Model Y range in India, now spanning three variants by combining performance, range and increased practicality in a single package.
