A faculty member of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and his wife are facing a police case after a 23-year-old woman from Manipur accused them of assaulting her, keeping her confined and starving her inside their campus residence while she worked as a nanny for their children over nearly five years.

According to police, the alleged abuse took place between June 1, 2021, and May 4, 2026, at the couple’s residence inside the IIM-B campus in Bilkenahalli in south Bengaluru.

In her complaint, the woman, a native of Churachandpur district in Manipur, alleged that she had been working as a caretaker for the children of the couple -- identified as Professor Amar and Anshu -- and had been staying with them on the campus during the period.

The woman alleged that since 2021, the couple had not been giving her proper food and had physically assaulted her on several occasions, including when she fell ill.

She further claimed that her employers snatched away her mobile phone, monitored her messages and prevented her from stepping outside or speaking freely with others.

According to the FIR, the woman alleged that she was assaulted whenever she spoke to other people, but did not report the incidents earlier out of fear.

While she told police she could not remember the exact dates and timings of every incident, she alleged that the latest assault took place around 2.30 am on April 15, when Anshu allegedly pulled her hair and physically attacked her.

The complainant also alleged that on May 4 she was denied food from the morning onwards, after which she approached neighbours for help. She claimed the neighbours gave her food and allowed her to use a phone to contact her aunt, who lives in Bengaluru and is the president of the Kuki Students Organisation Bangalore.

Following the complaint, Mico Layout Police registered a case on May 6 under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 127(4) (wrongful confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“All allegations are being looked into, and the matter is currently under investigation,” a senior police officer said.
