A serving brigadier of the Indian Army, Parminder Singh Arora, and his son, Tejas Singh Arora, were allegedly assaulted by a group of men in Delhi over the weekend after the senior officer objected to two people consuming alcohol inside a parked luxury car near their house, the police said.

The incident purportedly took place when the father-son duo, while taking a walk near their society in southwest Delhi's Vasant Enclave area, noticed a parked car in which two people were openly consuming alcohol.

When the Brigadier objected, the situation escalated and the occupants of the car allegedly called their associates. Within a short time, 7-8 other men arrived at the spot in different vehicles, and the situation quickly turned violent.

The group allegedly assaulted Tejas, who is an IIT graduate. When the Army officer tried to intervene, he too was purportedly manhandled by the attackers. Tejas is said to have sustained serious injuries during the incident.

POLICE ACCUSED OF INACTION

Police personnel were also rushed to the spot, but they allegedly remained passive and did not act to stop the assault. Brigadier Arora's wife, Nitasha, was allegedly threatened by the group of men who beat up their son.

She alleged that the police officer present at the spot refused to intervene despite her requests. The family has also claimed that officials initially refused to accept the complaint they tried to lodge at the nearest police station.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media. Taking cognisance of the matter, Delhi Police has registered an FIR under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 79 (any word, gesture, act, or object intrusion intended to insult the modesty of a woman or violate her privacy), 191(2) (rioting) and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

"We have registered an FIR. The accused persons are being traced. During preliminary enquiry, a lapse was found on the part of the inspector/investigation, and he has been sent to district lines," the police said in a statement.

INDIAN ARMY TAKES COGNISANCE

The Indian Army has also taken cognisance of the incident. According to Army sources, the Brigadier is currently posted with a National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit in Gujarat and was visiting family in Delhi.

Throughout his career, he has reportedly served in sensitive areas, including Kashmir.

The Indian Army has approached Delhi Police, seeking a swift probe and prompt action against the accused persons. "A Military Police team has been directed to assist the officer," read an official statement cited by news agency PTI.

FAMILY CLAIMS NO HELP OFFERED BY COPS

Brigadier Arora's wife also claimed that despite her son bleeding, the police insisted on a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report before registering their complaint and did not provide a vehicle to take them to the hospital.

"Eventually, my husband took our son to the Army Hospital himself for treatment and X-rays," she stated.

However, an officer aware of the case refuted the allegation, stressing that the injured was indeed given medical assistance.

"They preferred to go to a military hospital. Our team supported them. Rest teams are probing all the angles," the officer, cited by PTI, said.
