No age, no location barriers: IIT Madras BS programmes open doors for all learners
IIT Madras has opened applications for its 2026 BS degree programmes until May 31. The flexible, largely online courses aim to widen access to IIT-level learning without JEE.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has opened admissions for its BS Degree Programmes for the 2026 academic cycle, with May 31, 2026, set as the last date to apply. The programmes are aimed at expanding access to IIT-level education and are open to anyone who has completed Class 12, irrespective of age.
The institute is offering four BS programmes:
BS in Data Science and Applications
BS in Electronic Systems
BS in Management and Data Science
BS in Aeronautics and Space Technology
The courses are designed to function either as standalone degrees or alongside a regular undergraduate programme. Students pursuing BCom, BSc, BBA, or engineering degrees can simultaneously enrol in these programmes to strengthen their technical and analytical skills.

Admissions do not require clearing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)
Entry is through a qualifier process designed to widen access
Programmes are delivered primarily online
In-person examinations are conducted across centres in India
Students can study at their own pace
Multiple exit options are available, including Certificate, Diploma, and Degree pathways
Fee support of up to 75 per cent is available for eligible students from economically weaker backgrounds
According to IIT Madras, the flexible structure is intended to help learners build future-ready skills while balancing other academic or professional commitments.
Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean (Academic Courses), IIT Madras, said the programmes are designed to provide flexibility without compromising academic quality.
He added that learners increasingly need strong foundations in data, technology, and interdisciplinary thinking, regardless of their primary degree or profession.
The curriculum has been developed in consultation with industry and academic experts, with emphasis on practical learning and emerging technologies.
Students receive exposure to fields such as data analysis, business decision-making, electronic systems, and aerospace technologies.
The programmes have already attracted tens of thousands of learners across India, reflecting IIT Madras’ larger push toward democratising higher education through technology-enabled learning.
