International pop star Rihanna tried mastering Bharatanatyam during her Mumbai visit. A video of her learning mudras and expressions of the classical dance form is now being widely shared online.
International pop star Rihanna added an Indian classical touch to her Mumbai visit by trying a few mudras of Bharatanatyam. A video shared online by influencer Nejm showed the singer taking a quick lesson in the classical dance form, and the clip has gone viral in no time.
Rihanna was in Mumbai for the launch of her beauty brand, Fenty Beauty, and several clips from the event are trending on social media. Along with the dance lesson clip, videos showed her meeting influencers, interacting with fans, asking how to say thank you in Hindi and attending an after-party with Janhvi Kapoor and fashion designer Manish Malhotra have all become talk of cyberspace.
Rihanna picks Bharatanatyam tips
In the video posted by Nejm, who has 618,000 followers on Instagram, Rihanna appeared eager to join in as Nejm showed her a few mudras (hand gestures) and explained how expressions are conveyed through the eyes in Bharatanatyam. Rihanna followed the steps and expressions as the brief lesson continued.
There was a playful element about their encounter, too. During the encounter, Nejm asked Rihanna about make-up, her partner A$AP Rocky and her children – the condition being, Rihanna would have to respond only through facial expressions. She attempted the expressions as Nejm guided her.

Meanwhile, a video from the event showing Rihanna stepping out to ask how to say "thank you" in Hindi has gone viral. In another clip, she was seen smiling as she posed with a photographer on the red carpet.
Rihanna also met influencer Orry, among many other social media personalities. Their interaction brought back memories of their exchange at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar, where Orry had gifted Rihanna his crystal earrings after she admired them. Referring to that moment in the caption, he joked that she seemed ready to do anything except return the earrings.
The Mumbai event was followed by an after-party. Clips from the celebration shared online included videos featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Manish Malhotra. Another clip showed Rihanna dancing next to the DJ booth.
