A group of men stormed the BJP district office in Tarn Taran, raised slogans and vandalised the premises on Tuesday. The attack triggered a police investigation, drew condemnation from local BJP leaders and raised law and order concerns.

Panic gripped the BJP district office in Tarn Taran after a group of around a dozen men stormed the premises, raised slogans and vandalised property on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, nearly 15 to 20 youths suddenly entered the office shouting slogans such as “BJP murdabad” and “Punjab ekta zindabad”. The attackers allegedly threw posters, splashed ink inside the office and created chaos by damaging furniture and other items.
During the incident, ink was also thrown at BJP district general secretaries Shivkumar Soni and Surjit Singh Sagar, who were present in the office hearing public grievances at the time.
When staff members and supporters tried to resist, the attackers allegedly resorted to stone-pelting. Witnesses said the accused fled the scene while firing shots in the air. No injuries were reported in the incident.
At the time of the attack, BJP district president Harjit Singh Sandhu was reportedly attending a protest by sanitation workers at the municipal council along with party workers.
Eyewitnesses claimed that BJP supporters managed to catch one of the attackers, but the group overpowered them and rescued their associate before escaping.
Two men were also seen firing shots from a pistol in the air.
After receiving information, police officials Surinder Lamba and Sukhninder Singh reached the spot with teams and began an investigation. Police collected evidence from the scene and seized CCTV footage to identify the accused.
The SP said a case has been registered and efforts are underway to arrest those involved at the earliest.
Condemning the incident, the BJP district president termed it a serious failure of law and order and demanded strict action against the culprits. Police have intensified patrolling in the area following the attack.
