A payment dispute in Delhi took a savage turn when a confectioner was allegedly tied up, dragged to a rooftop and attacked with a power grinder in an attempt to sever his hands.

Police said Gupta, a halwai who also runs a tent service, had recently worked at a wedding hosted by Ajay Pal on April 20. The total bill was Rs 2.5 lakh, of which nearly Rs 2 lakh remained unpaid.

When Gupta went to demand his dues, an argument broke out.

What followed, according to police, quickly escalated into violence.

‘TAKEN TO ROOF, ATTACKED WITH GRINDER’

“Ajay Pal, along with two to three associates, caught hold of him, took him to the roof and inflicted deep cuts on his hands using a power grinder,” a police officer said.

The attack left Gupta bleeding heavily, with severe injuries to both forearms.

Details in the FIR and medical report point to multiple deep lacerations, exposed tendons and significant trauma caused by a sharp-edged weapon.

RUSHED TO AIIMS, CONDITION SERIOUS

Gupta was initially taken to a nearby private medical centre but was later referred to AIIMS due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Doctors confirmed the wounds were grievous in nature.

Police said the victim’s statement has been recorded and evidence collected from the scene.

ARREST, JUVENILES DETAINED

Ajay Pal, 53, has been arrested in connection with the case, while two juveniles have been detained. Police are searching for others involved in the assault.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kushal Pal Singh said the attack stemmed from a financial dispute and assured strict action.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Dabri police station. Further investigation is underway.
