Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and said under his leadership any threats of sanctions would boomerang.
Several doctors in Delhi on Friday protested against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College as well as against the vandalism at the hospital premises. Speaking to India Today, one of the doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital said, "Till now, in our respect for Independence Day, we are just protesting inside the hospital. But, after Independence Day, our plan is to connect with more and more people with this campaign because this is not just a mishappening with a doctor, it's a question of women's security. So more and more people should join us in the demand of justice for that girl..." Notably, on August 9, the semi-naked body of the 32-year-old trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the government-run hospital RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, linked to the case was arrested by the Kolkata Police.
