Edappadi K. Palaniswami to India Today: 'DMK is giving Pongal prize only for votes'

In an exclusive interview with India Today's Akshita Anandagopal in Salem, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the DMK government's Pongal gift distribution, alleging it is a move calculated for the upcoming elections. Palaniswami contrasts this with his tenure, stating, "We gave 2,500 rupees to every family" during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure every household could celebrate. He further attacks the 'Dravidian Model' government, alleging widespread corruption in departments like electricity and local bodies, and mentions that central agencies like the ED have found irregularities. Addressing past allegations against himself, he asserts his innocence regarding the Rs 4,800 crore highway tender case, claiming he insisted the legal proceedings continue rather than being withdrawn. Palaniswami expresses confidence that the AIADMK-led alliance will secure a massive victory in the assembly elections, citing widespread public resentment among government employees, farmers, and doctors against the current administration.
