After a Hanuman flag was taken down at a village in Karnataka's Mandya district, BJP, JD(S) and pro-Hindu activists staged protests in Mandya and Bengaluru on Monday.
A large number of protesters gathered in Bengaluru on Monday morning to protest against the removal of the flag. The protesters blocked roads and shouted slogans, including 'Jai Shri Ram', and they were detained by the police.
It all started when a group of people, who were permitted by the village panchayat to hoist the national flag, erected a 108-foot tall flagpole in Keragodu village on Saturday. However, instead of the national flag, they hoisted a Hanuman flag.
This sparked discontent among some villagers. Village panchayat officials requested the removal of the Hanuman flag, leading to protests.

Why does India celebrate National Technology Day? Every year on May 11, India marks National Technology Day to commemorate a defining moment in its history: the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. Led by then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and a team of brilliant scientists, these underground tests were so secretive they famously exposed a massive intelligence failure by the CIA. The same day saw the successful test flight of the indigenous Hansa-3 aircraft and the Trishul missile. In 2026, we explore how this "explosion of self-esteem" paved the way for India to become a global leader in AI, space exploration, and semiconductors. Plus: The New King of Camera Phones?
