Indian Railways passengers travelling in May need to plan carefully this time. A major train diversion has been announced due to non-interlocking work at Jaunpur Junction in Uttar Pradesh. This upgrade work is part of yard remodelling to improve train speed and operations. But it comes with a catch, more than 40 trains, including the popular Vande Bharat Express, are affected.
Routes have been changed, some stoppages removed, and a few trains are partially cancelled. If your journey falls in May, checking this list can save you from last-minute trouble.
WHY TRAINS ARE AFFECTED
The disruption is due to yard remodelling work at Jaunpur Junction under the Lucknow division. This involves pre-non interlocking and non-interlocking work, which is essential for smoother and faster train operations in the future.
As a result, Indian Railways has changed routes, reduced stoppages, and adjusted train origins and destinations.
VANDE BHARAT AND MAJOR TRAIN DIVERSION
The 22435 Patna–Gomtinagar Vande Bharat Express will run on a diverted route on multiple dates in May 2026.
- New route: Jafarabad–Sultanpur–Ayodhya Cantt
- Old route: Jafarabad–Shahganj–Ayodhya Cantt
- No halt at Ayodhya Dham station during this period
KEY TRAINS RUNNING ON DIVERTED ROUTES
Several long-distance and special trains are being rerouted. Some major ones include:
Most of these trains will skip Jaunpur and nearby stations like Janghai, Mariahu, and others.
STATIONS WHERE STOPS ARE CANCELLED
Due to the diversion, trains will not stop at several stations, including:
- Jaunpur
- Jafarabad
- Mariahu
- Janghai
- Prayagraj Chheoki
- Vindhyachal
- Mirzapur
- Shahganj
- Ballia (for some trains)
Passengers boarding from these stations should double-check their train status.
SHORT TERMINATION AND CANCELLATION
Some MEMU trains are also affected:
- 65101 & 65119 (Ghazipur City–Jaunpur): Will terminate at Muftiganj
- 65102 & 65120 (Jaunpur–Ghazipur City): Will start from Muftiganj
- These trains are cancelled between Jaunpur and Muftiganj for selected dates
