It's all about Oprah Winfrey

The queen of television talk shows, Oprah Winfrey , connected to more than 10,000 people in this historic pink city on Sunday with her message on education, awareness and empowerment of women during the Jaipur Literature Festival on Sunday, January 22 2012.

Her first visit to India, Oprah says, was driven by her first image of the country "a picture featuring a woman on a camel" which she put on her visit board reading 'Come to India'. And after witnessing first hand the "paradox" that is India, and being left "awestruck" by the traffic manners of the country, she would definitely like to return.

"What most impressed me here was the family tradition in the country and the fact that you take care of your parents, your grandparents," said Oprah at the Jaipur Literary Festival wearing a yellow-green embroidered salwar paired with ankle grazing western styled pyjamas.

Clad in a mustard silk 'salwar-kameez' with a pink chiffon dupatta and sporting golden bangles, Oprah said her trip to the city to speak at the Jaipur Literature Festival was made possible by spiritual guru Deepak Chopra and was a "vision" coming true.

Talking about her early life as a not-so-privileged child, Oprah said while her grandmother who brought her up could not have dreamt what she finally achieved in what was then an apartheid state in America, her self-belief made sure she reached the heights.

It was important to go to slums but not necessary to show the the worst of the worst, what I wanted to portray is that there is poverty but there is still a sense of hope," Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah said the three things that struck her about India was "its chaos, the underlying calmness and love - and the fact that everyone seems to know where they are going".

Oprah spent time in Mumbai, visiting a slum, an ashram for widows, besides attending a high-profile dinner with Bollywood personalities before coming to Jaipur.

She was born in Mississippi in 1954 to a teenaged unmarried mother.

For me, education is the most important thing. I have been from village to village in Africa looking for girls like myself... and families desperate for education. I was raised by my grandmother in poverty. My grandmother did not live to see me become an educated woman," Oprah said.

The talk show host earlier visited Mumbai, Agra and Vrindavan as part of her Indian itinerary. She is shooting some India-specific episodes and interviews for her next show, "Oprah's Next Chapter".
