Mazharuddin, DCP (detective), found Qadeer's role dubious in the wakf losing control of the sprawling Razzack Manzil in the heart of Hyderabad. He was hand-in-glove with Masood Ali, during whose stint as the property's custodian, an attempt was made to sell it off to a local builder. </p><p>"Its sale or purchase is illegal," said Shaik Saad Hussain, who was removed as special officer to the wakf last month. Among the six arrested for Qadeer's murder are Hussain's personal assistant, Zakaria, and driver Irfan Ali.</p><p>The board officials' connivance is also suspected in several of the 1,000-odd cases pending in the courts against it. It is due to wakf mismanagement that income from 44,000 mosques, dargahs and other premises run by it is only Rs 65.73 lakh a year. The Wakf Board has remained suspended since early 1991.</p><p>To pull the wakf out of the morass, former wakf minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir suggests that "the Government should give it executive powers as well as grant-in-aid as in 11 other states".
