David Dhawan on his advice to Varun over Border 2 trolling: This will get over

David Dhawan opened up on how Varun Dhawan dealt with the trolling he faced during Border 2. He also recalled his advice to Varun over the social media negativity.

Director David Dhawan has reacted to his actor-son Varun Dhawan getting trolled during the promotions of Border 2 (2026). He also spoke about how the social media negativity stopped after the box office success of Border 2.

David, in an interview with Pinkvilla, reflected on how Varun dealt with his fair share of trolling. He said, "But kya hua? Sab ulat gaya na! (But what happened? It all turned around)!"

"Today, everything is work. I told him this will get over. Kuch din baad yehi log bolenge ki ye toh bohot achha hai. (After some days, these same people will say Varun is very good)," the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai director added.

"Uski last picture toh mujhe itni achhi lagi thi. Uska kaam Border 2 mein...itna roya bhi hoon main us picture mein uske kaam se (I loved his last film so much. His performance in Border 2... I actually cried so much watching his work in that movie)," David said.

David Dhawan on Varun Dhawan's growth as an actor

David praised Varun's growth as an actor and said that he is on the "right track." He also expressed admiration for his son's humility towards the people around him.

"Definitely, he has improved and is on the right track. Aur woh apne kaam ki value jaanta hai. (And he knows the value of his work.) He respects the people around him. He's very careful and tries to give his best," the director added.

Varun Dhawan's response to Border 2 trolling

Varun Dhawan had spoken about the trolling he had been facing ahead of the release of his much-awaited film Border 2.

After the release of the song Ghar Kab Aaoge from the film, an Instagram user wrote "Bhai, apki acting pe sawal utha rahe hai log, uske liye kya bolege (People are questioning your acting skills. What would you like to say to them?"

While responding to the user, Varun replied, "Yeh sawaal ne gaana hit karadia. Sab enjoy kar rahe hai. Rab di mehar. (This question made the song go viral. Everyone is having a good time. God is great)."

David has directed Varun in the upcoming comedy-drama Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, featuring actors Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde and others in key roles.

The film is set for a theatrical release on May 22, 2026.
