India's No 1 Senorita: Farhan Akhtar honours Asha Bhosle at Jalandhar concert

Actor-singer Farhan Akhtar paid tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle during a recent concert in Jalandhar, days after her death on April 12 at the age of 92.

During his tribute, Akhtar spoke about Asha Bhosle's timeless influence on Indian music and generations who grew up listening to her. He called her 'India’s No. 1 senorita,' celebrating her incredible range of music that has become a part of people's lives, memories, and emotions.

Performing at Lovely Professional University, the actor-singer paused his set to honour 'Asha Tai' by singing her iconic track Dum Maro Dum from the 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The performance quickly turned into a sing-along, with the audience joining in to celebrate the singer’s enduring legacy.

Akhtar shared a video from the concert on Instagram on April 14, writing, “In memory of the legend herself it was incredible to see young students in the thousands show their love and respect for her music. To celebrate her is the best way to remember her (sic).”

Earlier, he had also remembered Bhosle in a note, calling her an irreplaceable voice in Indian music. “It is impossible to talk about playback singing and not mention Asha Bhosle ji. Thank you for the decades upon decades of music and memories (sic),” he wrote.

Asha Bhosle died at the age of 92 on April 12. She was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy hospital on April 11 after experiencing cardiac and respiratory issues. The singer had been unwell for several months.

On Monday, Asha Bhosle's body was kept at her residence for loved ones to pay tribute. She was draped in the Indian flag as a mark of respect. Videos show soldiers wrapping her casket, adorned with white lilies, in the tricolour as she received state honours.

She was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai.
