Kunal Kapoor to make cameo in Ek Din, says Aamir's call was reason enough
Actor Kunal Kapoor is set to make a guest appearance in Ek Din after his Rang De Basanti co-star Aamir Khan personally asked him to join the film. He described the romantic drama as warm and said he believes it will connect with audiences.

Actor Kunal Kapoor has shared that his Rang De Basanti co-star Aamir Khan personally reached out and asked him to be part of the film Ek Din. He is set to make a guest appearance in the romantic drama, headlined by actors Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.
In an official statement, Kunal described Ek Din as a warm and sweet film and said he believes it will connect with the audience. The actor also said he enjoyed stepping into the role, even though his part in the film is brief.
Aamir's call sealed it
Kunal said Sai has consistently delivered strong performances, while Junaid has also done very well. Speaking about his own part, he said it is a special appearance, and added that Aamir was keen that he come on board. For him, that was reason enough to take on the role.
The 48-year-old actor also spoke about Junaid and praised his approach to work. He said he has seen Junaid since he was very young, and now finds it notable that he is not only acting in the film but is also taking on the responsibility of producing it. He described Junaid as focused and hardworking, and said work seems to be his main priority.
Special connection with the director
Ek Din is directed by Sunil Pandey. Kunal said that this association also made the film special for him. Pandey had earlier worked with Aamir and Kunal as an assistant director on Rang De Basanti. Released in 2006, the film recently completed 20 years.
Looking back on that connection, Kunal said one reason Rang De Basanti remains special to him is because of Sunil. He added that there is something nice about full-circle moments, when people end up working again with those with whom they started their journey.
The trailer of Ek Din was released on April 16, 2026. It hints at an old-school love story centred on music, hope and magic. The story follows Junaid as a shy man who struggles to express his feelings to his office colleague, played by Sai, before a turn in Japan changes their lives.
Ek Din is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
Kunal is also set to appear in the magnum opus Ramayana, where he plays Lord Indra.
