Ram Charan was at the centre of a viral moment during the music launch of his upcoming film Peddi in Bhopal after he accidentally mixed up cricket and football while praising Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The actor later apologised on social media and called it a “genuine human error” made in the middle of the excitement and crowd interaction.

The actor attended the event with A R Rahman, Janhvi Kapoor and Divyenndu. During an interaction on stage, he was asked to describe Indian cricketers in a few words. While his remarks on several players drew attention, it was his comment on Bumrah that went viral.

What happened on stage

Ram Charan described Sachin Tendulkar’s journey as a “long legendary run”, called MS Dhoni “calm and cool”, and said Rohit Sharma was “everybody’s man”. For Virat Kohli, he simply said, “Fire.”

However, while speaking about Bumrah, the RRR actor Charan accidentally confused sports references during his praise for the fast bowler and appeared to think that the cricketer plays football.

"Jasprit Bumrah ji, I am your biggest fan. I love football and you are taking football to new heights. Love you, sir," Ram said at the event.

Soon after the on-stage goof-up went viral, Ram issued an apology on X. He said the mix-up happened amid the excitement of the event and added that he had deep respect for Bumrah and admired the way the cricketer continues to make India proud with his performances.

His note read: “Uff I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up, it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd. I truly respect you and I am a huge fan of your game. You make every Indian feel proud when you consistently put batsmen on back foot (sic).”

During the promotions of RRR, his co-star and director SS Rajamouli had spoken about how it is a task for Ram to remember names and how he is quite forgetful.
