Thalapathy Vijay's farewell film, Jana Nayagan, was illegally telecast on a local television channel in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. A member of the actor's political party approached the police flagging the illegal airing. Following the complaint, the Coimbatore District Police arrested a 44-year-old man for illegally broadcasting the unreleased film, starring Thalapathy Vijay.

The accused, S Palanisamy, owner of the channel Raasi Prime Movie and resident of Ram Nagar in Karumathampatti, aired the film on April 11 despite it awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The case was registered following a complaint by Mohanapriya, deputy secretary of the Coimbatore East unit of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Acting on the complaint, Coimbatore Superintendent of Police K Karthikeyan formed two special teams to investigate.

Police confirmed that the film, still pending certification, had been illegally accessed and broadcast to the public through the channel.

Following the investigation, Karumathampatti police arrested Palanisamy. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities also seized equipment used in the illegal broadcast, including a computer, five hard disks, and other electronic devices. The channel’s office has been sealed as part of the enforcement action.

The police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal distribution of the film and other copyrighted content through cable or online platforms. The public has been urged to report such illegal activities to the authorities.

Jana Nayagan leaked online

On April 9, a few clips of Vijay's long-pending Jana Nayagan were leaked on the Internet. While fans were wondering how a film, pending certification, could be leaked, unknown people leaked the HD (high-definition) print of the film in its entirety. Much to the shock of the fans and makers, the clips and the pirated links of the film were circulated on many platforms.

While the makers of Jana Nayagan were actively taking down the links, it was too late. KVN Productions, the production house of Vijay's film, asked fans to delete the clips immediately and refrain from sharing the pirated links.

Following an official complaint, Tamil Nadu cyber crime arrested six individuals and removed over 300 illegal links from multiple sources.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was billed as Vijay's farewell film before he becomes a full-time politician. The film also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Menon and Prakash Raj, among others.
