DK Shivakumar sworn in as Karnataka CM; Expelled TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee becomes Bengal LoP

Simultaneously, a political crisis erupted in West Bengal as sixty rebel Trinamool Congress legislators formed a separate bloc, successfully claiming the position of principal opposition in the state assembly. The rebel faction, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, rejected the party general secretary's leadership while requesting the party founder to remain a mentor. Amidst this internal rebellion, federal enforcement officials arrived at the residence of the ousted general secretary to serve a summons related to a primary teachers' recruitment scam. The state assembly speaker has officially recognised the rebel nominee as the leader of the opposition, as the party leadership dissolves central organisations to address the ongoing turmoil.
