“I had the pleasure of writing and recording ‘You’re the One for Me’ with Asha Bhosle back in 2006. It’s something I’ll always be incredibly grateful for,” Lee wrote.

“What stayed with me most wasn’t just her extraordinary talent, but how kind and humble she was. For someone who had achieved so much in her life, she carried herself with such warmth and generosity,” he added.

“My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. I feel very fortunate to have shared even a small moment with someone so special...There’s no doubt her legacy will live on for generations to come,” he added.

Bhosle was widely regarded as one of the defining voices of Hindi cinema’s golden era, alongside legends like Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Her collaborations with composers such as R. D. Burman and O. P. Nayyar produced timeless classics that continue to resonate across generations.

WHEN BRETT LEE AND ASHA BHOSLE MADE A SONG

Lee and Bhosle shared a unique connection that went beyond admiration. The two had collaborated on the track You’re the One for Me in 2007, a rare crossover between cricket and music.

The collaboration came together during the ICC Champions Trophy, when Lee was invited to be part of a global music project. The song went on to become a chart success, showcasing Bhosle’s effortless versatility.

Their association left a lasting impression on Lee. Months after the recording, when they met again at the Sydney Opera House, Bhosle gifted him a signed album, a gesture that reflected the grace and humility he spoke about in his tribute.
