An innings and 300 runs. As comprehensive as it gets. That's the biggest win for India in Test cricket.

Good win for the Indian team in this Test, which came just days after the IPL. Yes, Afghanistan haven't played a lot of Test cricket and don't have a lot of experience, but they weren't allowed to find momentum.

It's tough for Afghanistan to play one-off Tests and expect them to do well.

Afghanistan did not have the tools to deal with the quality of Indian bowling. A lot of inexperience in the Test side.

This is shocking from Afghanistan batters. While they were too defensive in the first innings, they have thrown their bats at everything in the second. Both methods haven't worked.

India are beginning the final session of the day, possibly the final session of the Test, with Manav Suthar. The young man, who picked six wickets in the first innings, hasn't opened his account this innings.

Can he get a couple?

Azmatullah Omarzai and Afsar Zazai are the two batters in the middle. How long can the Afghanistan batters delay the inevitable?

That's the third wicket for Washington Sundar. Sediq Atal's handwork goes in vain. In the last over before Tea, the young left-hander tried to hit the off-spinner over the infield. It was a poor shot, considering the phase of play.

Sediq was beaten by the turn and got an outside edge. It was caught at point.

That shows the inexperience of the batter. He did all the hard work to nearly play out a session. But, he won't come back after Tea.

"Batted so well and gets out playing a horrible, horrible, shot. I don't understand what they wanted to get out of this session," says Sunil Gavaskar on air.

New batter Afsar Zazai survives. Was given not out after Washington Sundar got one to turn big and sneak through the gap between the right-hander's bat and pad.

Washington was confident, convinced his captain to go for the review.

But, the replays showed the ball was missing the stumps. It was too high.

Well, that's the end of Afghanistan captain Hashmat Shahidi's stay in the middle. Never looked comfortable. He pokes at one and is caught at slip. Washington Sundar with the wicket. That's his second in the innings.

Shubman Gill stays low and takes a good catch. It was sent to the third umpire, who confirmed it was a clean catch indeed.

Afghanistan are in trouble, having lost three in quick succcession after a solid start in their follow-on.

India lose their first review of the innings. Hashmatullah Shahidi, the new man, survives.

A poor review from Shubman Gill. Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter, forced him to take the review.

Big bounce on that delivery and Kuldeep bowls a googly. Shahidi is tangled, but the ball hits him well above the knee roll. The replays show the ball was missing the stumps.

This is a good spell of bowling from Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav. The pitch is starting to show signs of wear and tear and these two have zoned in.

20 minutes to go for the Tea break. Can India strike again?

India have struck again, with Washington Sundar providing another breakthrough. Rahmat Shah, who showed immense patience and resilience in the first innings, couldn't repeat the feat this time.

Looking to take on Sundar, Rahmat charged down the track but was deceived by the drift. He miscued the shot straight to Manav Suthar at mid-off, handing India a crucial wicket as Afghanistan's resistance continued to fade.

Kuldeep Yadav finally has a wicket in the match.

After going for 14 runs in the previous over against Gurbaz, Yadav got the better of the Afgan batter on long on.

Where Manav Suthar has gone on to become the second Indian this century to have a fifer on debut test innings.

On the other hand, veteran spinner Kuldeep Yadav has really struggled to go here. He has been wicketless in this match as Gurbaz starts to go after him.

Drinks are on the field after a hard-fought second session.

Afghanistan’s batters have shown plenty of resilience, with Mohammed Siraj providing India the breakthrough by removing Abdul Malik.

However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz joined Sediq at the crease and the pair have worked hard to frustrate the Indian bowlers and keep the innings alive.

Mohammed Siraj finally got the reward for a relentless spell as he trapped Abdul Malik lbw for 8 off 40 balls.

The pacer had repeatedly troubled the Afghanistan openers with his seam movement and came close to a breakthrough on several occasions.

His persistence eventually paid off when he struck with his first delivery to Malik in the spell, giving India the opening wicket of Afghanistan's second innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz comes out for Afghanistan.

Manav Suthar was left frustrated once again after creating another chance, only for the slip cordon to let him down.

A lapse by Rishabh Pant, who failed to reach the ball as it edged and deflected from his gloves. KL Rahul then failed to reach it, resulting in a dropped catch, allowing Abdul Malik a valuable reprieve.

Manav Suthar has managed to rein in both Sediq and Malik after the pair looked to counter-attack before lunch.

The left-arm spinner continues to extract significant turn from the surface, consistently troubling the Afghanistan openers and keeping the pressure firmly on.

Manav Suthar is back into the attack as Afghanistan’s batters look to avoid an innings defeat.

After the follow-on was enforced, the Afghan batters have adopted a more cautious approach, focusing on minimizing mistakes as the ball continues to grip and challenge them on this turning surface.

Afghanistan’s openers managed to survive a testing passage as lunch was called with no damage done.

Manav Suthar looked threatening from the very first ball, but Sediq and Malik held firm to ensure Afghanistan went into the break without losing a wicket.

After being bowled out for 152 in their first innings, India enforced the follow-on with a commanding lead of over 412 runs.

Manav Suthar continued to dominate, nearly striking again on the very first ball of the second innings after finishing with sensational figures of 6/33 in the first innings.

India bowl out Afghanistan for just 152 runs. Manav Suthar stars for India with a brilliant 6-wicket spell.

Washington Sundar picks the last wicket in the Afghan innings by dismissing Ziaur Rahman, who simply tried to whack the ball out of the ground. The delivery takes the top edge, and Rishabh Pant completes the catch running towards mid-wicket.

After dismissing Rahmat Shah, he has got rid of Saleem Safi, the Afghanistan fast bowler who had bowled very well earlier in the Test match.

Again a similar ball, on the leg stumps, spins sharply and hits Saleem on the pads. India go up in appeal and the umpire obliges.

Saleem wants to take the review, but I guess he does not. Saleem walks off agitatedly and ends up arguing with the dugout.

The DRS shows that the ball was pitching outside leg stump and he would have been not out.

Brilliant from Manav Suthar. He is singlehandedly ripping apart the Afghan side.

A loopy classic off-spinner's ball from over the wicket! Suthar gets the ball to grip and bowleds Rahmat Shah around the legs.

This is an important wicket for India. He was the only batter showing resistance against India.

Spinner Manav Suthar finds the breakthrough once again.

Sharafuddin Ashraf tries to hit him for a big shot on the front foot and ends up edging the ball to the keeper.

The umpire initially did not give it out, but keeper Rishabh Pant and the close-in fielders were very vocal about the review.

Shubman Gill did take it, and the Indian fielders were proven right.

Probably better for Ashraf, who was struggling with a leg injury.

Suthar completes a good over where he troubles newcomer Kharoti.

Mohammed Siraj has lost his bearings very early on Day 3.

With Rahmat Shah blocking majority of the balls and Sharafuddin Ashraf not doing much but surviving, an angry Siraj throws the ball straight into Rahmat's stumps after fielding it. The batter was not even running, he was just standing beside his crease.

In the very next ball, Siraj gets angry after Rahmat defends another ball. He walks up to the batter and asks what is the point of defending every ball on Day 3 morning when you are 430 runs behind.

Siraj has a point - the game is not moving at all. But there are probably better ways of showing it.

Sharafuddin Ashraf is struggling due to leg injury.

He prodded for a defence and probably tweaked either his knee or his quad muscles. As he hobbles to the side of the pitch, the Afghan physio is called in to provide him treatment.

Rahmat Shah is fighting a lonely battle for Afghanistan in Mullanpur.

The batter brought up his 6th Test fifty as wickets keep on falling at the non-strikers end.

Afghanistan lost five wickets on Day 2 after India’s debutant spinner made full use of the Muklanpur surface.

Prasidh Krishna struck early on Day 3, providing the first breakthrough as Rahmat Shah continues to fight a lone battle for Afghanistan.

The pitch remains in excellent condition despite the heat, though footmarks are starting to offer more assistance to spinners. With turn already evident yesterday, conditions are expected to slow further and bring spin increasingly into play as the match progresses.

The key challenge will be handling spin and adapting pace, with bowlers like Manav Suthar and Kuldeep Yadav likely to benefit as the surface wears on.

The pitch has continued to strongly assist the bowlers, with spinners extracting significant turn and making life difficult for the batters.

Afghanistan’s struggle against spin is reflected in their footwork data: on the front foot they are 36/1 from 82 balls with a 24.3% false-shot rate, while on the back foot they are 19/1 from 68 deliveries at 20.5%. Even attempts to use the crease or step out have yielded limited success, with 7/1 from 11 balls and a 9.0% false-shot percentage.

With conditions clearly in favour of the bowlers, India will back themselves to strike early in the morning session. The question now is whether Afghanistan can resist long enough to stretch their innings into the next day.

“I found out only in the morning when we arrived at the ground that I was making my debut," Suthar said after the game. "“My focus was on bowling in the right areas and backing my strengths. The wicket was helping, so my effort was to hit the right length consistently and extract as much turn as possible.”
