India Women swapped serious cricket drills for splashes and laughter as training turned into a full-blown water balloon war ahead of the T20I series against England. Preparing for the Women’s T20 World Cup, the players took part in a unique fielding challenge designed by fielding coach Munish Bali. The aim was simple, catch water balloons with soft hands, the same technique needed to pouch tough catches with the cricket ball.

India’s fielding star Radha Yadav was among those sharpening her skills in the fun-filled session. But once the catching contest ended, things quickly got chaotic in the best way possible. Kranti Goud’s team beat Nandni Sharma’s team and wasted no time celebrating in style.

Soon, Bharati Fulmali, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Kranti were launching water balloons at teammates as the training ground turned into a splash zone. With smiles, screams and flying balloons everywhere, Team India mixed fun with preparation perfectly before the England challenge.

INDIA BEGIN WORLD CUP PREPARATIONS

India will begin their World Cup campaign against Fatima Sana’s Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 14 in one of the marquee clashes of the tournament. Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and the Netherlands are the other teams in their group.

India’s biggest strength remains their explosive batting lineup featuring Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, while all-rounders Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav add balance with spin and sharp fielding. Renuka Singh’s swing bowling could also become a massive asset in English conditions. England, meanwhile, boast a dangerous and experienced squad, fresh from a T20I series win over New Zealand.

England batter Sophia Dunkley recently admitted that India are now “up there with Australia,” highlighting how highly the side is rated ahead of the World Cup. The series could therefore play a huge role in shaping India’s confidence and rhythm before their push for a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.
