Rashid Khan was taken apart in his first over as Rajasthan Royals kept the pressure on Gujarat Titans. Riyan Parag got things going with a four and a six off the first two balls, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi joined in by pulling a short delivery over deep backward square leg for another maximum. Rashid leaked 18 runs in the over, a rare sight for one of T20 cricket's most reliable bowlers.

A worrying moment for Rajasthan Royals as Ravindra Jadeja was forced to leave the field after taking medical attention in the middle of an over. It wasn't immediately clear what the problem was, but Jadeja looked uncomfortable enough to call for the physio before eventually deciding he could not continue. He walked off retired hurt, leaving RR with plenty to think about. While his batting stint has come to an abrupt end, the bigger concern will be his availability with the ball later in the evening, with the Royals likely to need all of his experience in a high-pressure knockout clash.

Gujarat Titans tried the short-ball tactic on the kid, but it has not been fruitful so far. They know that they have to break this stand and put pressure on the middle order, which did crumble in the Eliminator.

GT vs RR: Jadeja promotion working well for RR

Ravindra Jadeja's surprise promotion to No. 4 turned the momentum in Rajasthan Royals' favour as he tore into Prasidh Krishna in the sixth over. After charging down the track and slicing a chance just beyond the fielders for two, Jadeja took control with a fine hook for an 87-metre six and then punished two more short deliveries with boundaries behind square on the leg side. Prasidh persisted with the short-ball plan, but Jadeja was quick to pick the length, pulling and hooking with confidence to plunder 18 runs from the over and give RR a strong finish to the powerplay.

Mohammed Siraj looked in discomfort after pulling up with a sore right shoulder midway through his spell. The physio rushed out for treatment as the GT pacer grimaced in pain and repeatedly held his shoulder, but he chose to battle on and complete the over despite the visible discomfort.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to rewrite the record books. The Rajasthan Royals opener has become the first batter in T20 history to score 500 runs in the powerplay in a single season, underlining his dominance at the top and his fearless approach against the new ball.

IPL Live: Vaibhav finally gets his first six of the game

It took Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 14 balls to hit his first six, something rarely seen this season, but the wait ended in emphatic fashion. Kagiso Rabada charged in and banged in a 153 kmph delivery on a back of a length around off stump. Sooryavanshi barely moved, held his shape and swung through the line, sending the ball soaring straight back over Rabada's head and over the sightscreen. It was a shot that needed no timing adjustment, just clean power, and it finally got the Royals opener going.

IPL Qualifier 2: Sooryavanshi regains his rhythm

After a watchful start, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi began to find his rhythm against Mohammed Siraj in the third over. The young left-hander rode his luck with a couple of miscued pulls before cashing in, clearing mid-on for a boundary and then glancing another four fine down the leg side. A wayward Siraj delivery that flew over Jos Buttler for five wides further eased the pressure as Sooryavanshi helped Rajasthan Royals recover after the early loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rabada has delivered another big blow for Gujarat Titans. Banging it in at 146 kmph, he pitched the ball right up on middle and off, getting just enough movement away from the right-hander. Dhruv Jurel, standing leg-side of the ball, tried to take the aerial route with a lofted drive through the off side, but the bat face opened at the point of contact. The ball skewed high into the air and Shubman Gill made no mistake at mid-off as Rajasthan lost their second wicket.

Time to hear from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - About his routine before every match, Sooryavanshi says the evening schedule has worked in their favour, giving the squad plenty of time to recover between games. He adds that he uses his free time to connect with his family. On the knockout pressure, he says his thought process does not change from game to game, and he makes a conscious effort not to overthink, which he believes keeps him sharp and focused. About whether he focuses much on video analysis of the bowlers he is going to face, Sooryavanshi says he does not rely on it heavily, explaining that watching too much footage can plant doubts in his mind about the deliveries that could get him out. He adds that everyone already knows what each bowler brings to the table, so he simply focuses on visualising. On how rubber-ball cricket shaped his game, Sooryavanshi says practising batting for five to six hours a day with a new ball that swings, on cemented wickets, has been invaluable.
