For CSK, they were outbatted, outbowled and outfielded, and as put by Gaikwad himself, would want to put this bad game aside and start afresh as they head to their den for their next game. They face the Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, 3rd April. As for the Rajasthan Royals, they will take a long flight to Ahmedabad to face their neighbours, the Gujarat Titans, on Saturday, 4th April. On a surface that had spent considerable time under covers, there was enough in it for the quicks and Jofra Archer along with Nandre Burger made the most of it, picking two apiece and blowing the top order clinically. Ravindra Jadeja, donning the new colors, haunted his former side with a double strike. From there, it was all about damage control. Jamie Overton showed real fight in the lower order, absorbing a few blows and digging in as the highest scorer. He stitched a crucial stand with Kamboj for the final wicket to push CSK past 120 and give them something to bowl at.

A lot to ponder for the ones in yellow - It was only the first game, but the returns from CSK’s frontline bowlers were a real concern and gave them plenty to think about. Matt Henry leaked 40 in his three overs, while Noor was taken apart as well. The only bright spots with the ball were Anshul Kamboj, who picked up the only two wickets that fell, and Khaleel, who bowled with an economy of under a run a ball. Overall, it was one of those days where nothing went right for the Super Kings. They were defending a low total to begin with, but fielding lapses, including a couple of costly dropped chances, only made matters worse. The bowling plans never quite clicked either, as Sooryavanshi’s onslaught left them searching for answers, which they never really found.

Jaiswal had a rather scratchy start, but it was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who kept punishing the CSK bowlers with clear intent. He smashed a 15-ball half-century for fun and truly made it remarkable. It almost felt as if the Royals were batting on a completely different surface as boundaries were raining all over. They chalked more than half the runs off in the Powerplay itself, with all ten wickets intact. Sooryavanshi's wham-bam-slam was eventually put to an end by Kamboj, who picked up a couple of wickets, but the damage was long done.

This extends RR's dominance over CSK to 9-2 in the last 11 games in the IPL. That was the battle we waited for, right? Sanju Samson was beaten and troubled by Jofra Archer.

Samson edged a fuller delivery, and it flew straight through the vacant slip cordon to a boundary. Why did Riyan Parag not have a traditional slip fielder?

Samson was lucky to survive that wonderful first over from Archer. The English pacer bowled with a lot of heat and accuracy. Unlike the T20 World Cup semifinal in Mumbai, Samson kept it full and invited the drive. There he bowled short and paid the price for it.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad has looked steady.
