RR vs GT Highlights, IPL 2026: Rashid Khan-led GT dethrones RR from top-four

A double dose of action awaits - A lopsided affair in Jaipur, but with hopes of two competitive contests, we now shift our attention to the double-header on Sunday, 10th May. First up in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings face the Lucknow Super Giants, with Lucknow fighting for survival in the playoff race. That game will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Later in the day, it will be the first visit to Raipur this season as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru host the Mumbai Indians at their second home venue. The captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill says the discussion within the group before this game was that they had still not played a perfect match this season, and he felt this performance came closest to being that complete game. Feels the team ended up scoring around 10-15 runs above par and pointed out that there was a little bit in the surface for the spinners during the middle phase. Speaking about GT's bowling approach, Shubman says the side believes strongly in holding the fort upfront because early wickets give the bowlers more freedom to attack during the middle overs.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH -  Rashid Khan gets the award for his stellar bowling display. He finished with figures of 4/33 from his 4 overs, including 12 dot balls. He says he is pleased with his consistency this season after two difficult years, adding that regaining rhythm after injury was challenging initially, but his focus now is simply on hitting the right areas and lengths consistently, which he believes naturally creates wicket-taking opportunities. He also highlights the importance of having experienced players in the squad, especially those familiar with Indian conditions, while sharing his own international experience with younger teammates. Speaking about modern cricket, Rashid mentions that variations have become essential and praises Sai Kishore for developing new skills, including the wrong ’un.

Coming off a break, Jofra Archer was all over the place with his lines and lengths, and as a unit, the rest of the attack could not quite pick up the slack either. The Gujarat openers cashed in to set the innings up brilliantly with a 118-run opening stand. Shubman Gill battled through what seemed like an Achilles issue and still went on to score 84, while Sai Sudharsan chipped in with a well-made 55. Washington Sundar looked busy at the crease, and even though RR did threaten to deny GT the desired finish, a 21-run final over meant the tourists got up to 229.

Rashid spins GT to victory - With RR needing to pull off their highest successful run chase in IPL history, they were in search of a strong Powerplay. The start was promising, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi imposing himself on the GT new-ball attack before his stay was cut short. RR lost a couple more wickets, but still managed to score 78 runs in the Powerplay. It was all about keeping up the required run rate, but Rashid Khan made use of whatever minimal help was on offer and dented RR through the middle phase with regular strikes. The chase kept drifting away from the home side, who could not even bat out their full 20 overs.

A quick chat with Kagiso Rabada - Kagiso Rabada says everyone in the group is determined and fully committed, adding that his focus remains on performing his role to the best of his ability. He praises the bowling unit for working together well and pushing in the same direction as a collective. Speaking about bowling to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he says the methods that have worked for him over the last 11 years continue to hold strong. He mentions the amount of behind-the-scenes work that goes into analysing batters and identifying weaknesses, but stresses that execution still comes down to backing his strengths and sticking to his plans. On managing workload late in the season, he says his body feels good, though mental fatigue can become a challenge at this stage of a long tournament. He adds that staying mentally fresh and maintaining professionalism becomes even more important towards the business end of the competition. Talking about variations and slower balls, he explains that he tries not to focus excessively on developing too many variations as it can distract from the core aspects of his bowling. While he hasn’t relied heavily on slower deliveries this season, he remains confident enough to use them whenever the situation demands.

The captain of the Rajasthan Royals - Yashasvi Jaiswal says that they were just thinking of bowling in the good areas to cut short the boundaries, but credits the GT batters for the way they played. Adds that in cricket, anyone can have a bad day, and reckons Archer will come back to his best soon. Jaiswal mentions that he didn't think much about not having Nandre Burger, as he was focused on the bowlers he had and who could give him some good overs. Says that they will go back and think about what they need to do better and come back stronger in the next game.

A dominant win for the Titans - Gujarat make it four wins in a row as they continue their climb up the ladder. With this victory, they move from 5th to 2nd on the table with 7 wins in 11 games. While GT seem to be peaking at just the right time, the Rajasthan Royals appear to be losing steam at the wrong stage of the tournament.  After beginning the campaign with 4 wins on the bounce, RR have managed just 2 victories in the 7 games since, and their net run rate has also taken a hit with this heavy defeat.

But the Afghan makes a meal of it, failing to grab the ball and tumbling on the ground, giving Shanaka the chance to return.

Strategic Break! With the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja, the only recognised batter left for the Rajasthan Royals is Dasun Shanaka. However, it will need something really special from him to even get back in this game, but to not take a massive hit on NRR, they have to try and play the 20 overs and score as many as possible. Gujarat Titans have been brilliant with the ball, and when Rashid Khan is in form like this, he can go through any batting lineup on his own. They will look to wrap things up quickly now. STRATEGIC BREAK! No shortage of action in the first six overs of the chase. Gujarat Titans have picked up three wickets but have also gone for plenty of runs, while Rajasthan Royals would probably have liked to have lost a couple fewer wickets at this stage. The ball has continued to slide nicely onto the bat, but will it start becoming tougher to score as it gets scruffed up, much like what happened during the GT innings? We are yet to see spin introduced, but with the Powerplay now done, that should not be too far away. It will be spin straight away after the break. Rabada clevelry rolls his fingers to take pace off, lands this short of a length and on middle. Hetmyer looks to heave it across the line, but goes through it early and this is also not that short to play that shot. He only manages to get a top edge as the ball goes straight up in the air. Jason Holder at mid on settles under it, moving to his right and pouches it safely. RR are three down inside the Powerplay.

Yashasvi Jaiswal swivels for the pull but he is rushed into the shot. Slices it off the lower half in front of mid off. Kagiso thinks about going for the catch, but then leaves it on seeing two men converging. Nishant Sindhu runs forward from cover and takes the catch in front of the incoming Shubman Gill.

Surprise, surprise! At the toss, Shubman Gill mentioned that Prasidh Krishna is back in the team in place of Manav Suthar. However, looking at the surface, GT have opted to bring in Sai Kishore as the Impact Sub. He has replaced Rahul Tewatia.

Royals' bowlers endure a tough outing - Rajasthan Royals' bowlers were off target right from the start, with Jofra Archer conceding 18 runs in the very first over to set the tone for a difficult innings. Gujarat Titans took full advantage and raced to 82 in the Powerplay, putting the Royals under immense pressure early on. The spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Yash Punja did manage to pull things back slightly during the middle overs, combining for figures of 2/71 from their eight overs and briefly slowing the scoring rate. However, the pacers continued to struggle, with all of them conceding at over 11 runs an over. The 19 extras and a couple of dropped catches only added to Rajasthan's frustrations. Still, the Royals possess a destructive batting lineup, and they will need their batters to fire collectively against a strong Gujarat bowling attack if they are to fight their way back into the contest. A quick chat - GT's Sai Sudharsan starts off by responding to the query regarding the pitch. He says that at first the ball was coming nicely onto the bat, but as it got older, it started to turn. When asked if there was any plan to take on Jofra, Sudharsan says that they always have plans ready on how to react to specific bowlers, and today it worked against Archer. On bowling plans, he adds that as the pitch is on the slower side, their bowlers should go for the slower cutters because it's not an easy wicket to bat on once the ball gets older. On batting alongside Gill, Sai shares that he is very lucky to have an opening partner like Shubman and ends up saying that he looks up to his game from many perspectives.

Openers lay the perfect platform - The Gujarat Titans opening pair deliver once again, doing it with their trademark elegance and control. Rather than relying purely on brute force, they hurt the bowlers with precise timing and clever placement, making life extremely frustrating for the opposition. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan stitched together a massive 118-run opening stand, with both bringing up fluent half-centuries. Gill battled through a foot injury but continued to play his strokes freely, producing a superb 84 off just 44 balls. Washington Sundar then injected fresh momentum with an unbeaten 37 off 20, while Rahul Tewatia's late blows helped Gujarat finish just shy of the 230-run mark.

Titans finish with a flourish - Gujarat Titans produce a commanding batting display to register their highest first-innings total of the season, and with the quality in their bowling attack, they will back themselves strongly to defend it. Rajasthan Royals did stage a mini fightback, conceding just 12 runs across the 18th and 19th overs to briefly pull things back. However, the momentum swung sharply once again in the Titans' favour after a 21-run final over gave the innings a powerful finish.

Strategic Break! Despite carrying that injury, Shubman Gill hasn't slowed down one bit and is leading from the front. Pink Promise - Tonight, the Rajasthan Royals will don their special all-pink jersey as part of their annual 'Pink Promise' initiative. Chosen through a nationwide contest, the winning jersey design was created by 19-year-old Samiksha Rameshwar Mundada from Nashik. Now into its third year, the initiative is a campaign led by the Royal Rajasthan Foundation aimed at driving women-led transformation across rural Rajasthan. As part of this year's campaign, for every six hit during tonight's game, RR have pledged to light up six homes with solar energy. The special jersey also carries the names of women grassroots leaders supported by the Royal Rajasthan Foundation.
