The skipper of England Women - Nat Sciver-Brunt says that the girls really stuck it out there at the end. Adds that once a batter like Richa gets going, you have to be smart, and Linsey held her nerve well. Mentions that the way Gibson batted at the death gave them a bit of momentum going into defending. Mentions that it was good to spend some time out there in the middle, and it was a good warm-up from all facets of the game for them. On her non-dismissal, she says that she knew that it hit her foot, but in the heat of the moment, you never can be sure (laughs). Ends by saying the team is really excited and looking forward to their first game against Sri Lanka now.

The captain of India Women - Harmanpreet Kaur says that Richa is someone who is a match-winner for their side, and it is good that she got her confidence. She adds that they failed to get partnerships in the middle, but it is good to see how Richa batted. She reckons that she is happy that everyone got their chances to play. She says that they have got their confidence in these two warm-up games, and they will play fearlessly against Pakistan in their opening game.

A productive outing - One of the key objectives for England going into the game was for their skipper, Nat Sciver-Brunt, to have valuable time in the middle after her recent calf injury, and that box was certainly ticked. Given a life on 21 when a caught-behind appeal went in her favour, Sciver-Brunt made the most of it with a timely knock. Amy Jones also contributed at the top of the order, while a late cameo from Danielle Gibson helped England post 171.

Richa's lone fight - In pursuit of 172, the Indian batters struggled to come to terms with the pace and bounce of the used surface, resulting in a sluggish start. Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur both got starts but were unable to convert them into substantial contributions. It was only with the arrival of Richa Ghosh that India found a spark. Despite losing partners at the other end, Ghosh kept her side in the hunt. England, who had been excellent with the ball for much of the innings, began to feel the pressure as Ghosh launched her counterattack. India came within one big hit of pulling off a remarkable win, but Linsey Smith held her nerve at the death to close out the win for England.

England survive late scare - A good, competitive outing for both sides ahead of the main event. In many ways, each team will feel they got what they wanted from the game. England saw Nat Sciver-Brunt spend valuable time in the middle, while with the ball, in the absence of Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone, Tilly Corteen-Coleman rose to the occasion and played a key role in keeping India in check. India will be encouraged by the fight shown by Richa Ghosh in the chase. More importantly, it came at a time when she had not managed a score of note on this England tour.

India let momentum slip at the death - It was a mixed outing with the ball for India Women. Renuka Singh Thakur struck early with the new ball, but chances were few and the ground fielding left a bit to be desired. Shafali Verma's golden arm broke a crucial stand, while Radha Yadav and Sree Charani chipped in with a wicket each. Shreyanka Patil was the pick of the bowlers with 2/29, but England's late charge, including 19 runs off Renuka's final over, shifted the momentum and left India's batters with a challenging chase ahead. Hosts recover smartly after early stumble - England Women were far from their fluent best in the Powerplay, losing Danni Wyatt-Hodge early and crawling to just 39/1 after six overs. Amy Jones then injected momentum with a classy 64 off 45, sharing a 70-run stand with Nat Sciver-Brunt. The skipper struggled to get going and even survived a lucky escape when a potential catch off her boot went unreviewed due to the absence of DRS. Rain halted play for just over an hour with Sciver-Brunt on 30 off 30, but she returned looking far more assured, finishing with a well-made 57 off 45. A late burst from Danielle Gibson, smashing 30 off just 12, then lifted England past the 170-run mark.

England end on a high with an explosive finish - England Women finished with a flourish, smashing 43 runs off the final three overs to post a strong total and seize the momentum heading into the break. India Women had their moments with the ball and kept the scoring in check for large periods, but their death-bowling woes resurfaced at the worst possible time. Whether the target proves enough remains to be seen, but England will head into the break feeling they have enough on the board.

The two umpires have made their way over to the Indian camp and are relaying their observations to the head coach, Amol Muzumdar and the captain, Harmanpreet Kaur. Update 10.38 am GMT (4.08 pm IST) - It did seem like a bit of drizzle was still lingering around the ground as the clean-up operation was briefly halted, but the ground staff are back at work now. Well, the sun is out and so are the match officials, who have made their way onto the field to have a look at the conditions. They are currently in conversation with one of the members of the ground staff, possibly discussing the turnaround time required to get the ground ready.

Update 10.24 am GMT (3.54 pm IST) - Good news! The rain has eased. The groundsmen are slowly taking the covers off. We can see a few puddles of water on the covers, which explains the cautious approach, but the clean-up operation is well underway. Stay tuned.

Update 10 am GMT (3.30 pm IST) - Oh no! The drizzle has picked up. The groundsmen get the hover cover on. They clearly feel this could be more than just a passing shower, which is why the square and the run-up areas are also being covered. Let's hope it goes away soon and the play resumes. PITCH REPORT - Tash Farrant is down by the pitch and notes that there is a nice, light breeze blowing across the ground. Informs that the match will be played on the same surface that was used for the warm-up games on Monday. She points out that the wicket is a touch dry but still feels rock solid underneath. Farrant reckons the spinners could have a big role to play through the middle overs. She also highlights the big pockets of the ground, which means batters will need to run hard between the wickets. Feels it will be important for teams to make the most of the Powerplay while the ball is hard.

The skipper of England Women - Nat Sciver-Brunt says that she wanted to bowl as well. She adds that she would like some time in the middle with the bat, and they will try to adapt to the conditions. She does not remember the changes, but there are a few for this game.
