Watch: Bruno Fernandes breaks Premier League's assist record to cap stellar season

Bruno Fernandes has broken the all-time Premier League record for the most assists in a season to cap off a stellar campaign for Manchester United. Fernandes got his 21st assist of the season via a corner as Patrick Dorgu ensured that United took the lead at Brighton.

Fernandes sent in a whipped cross from the corner and Dorgu rose above everyone else to nod the ball home, which ricocheted off the post and into the goal. There was a bit of doubt with the goal and if it belonged to Dorgu as the ball hit the post and then got the last touch off Verbruggen. But the Premier League awarded the goal to Dorgu and the record was finally belonged to the Portuguese midfielder. You can see the full video here:

FERNANDES' STELLAR CAMPAIGN

Fernandes started off the season with a more deeper role under Ruben Amorim and only got his first assist during Manchester United's win at Anfield on October 19. After Michael Carrick's appointment, Fernandes was put back into his usual No.10 role and started to dictate the games for United.

This saw him get assists in wins over Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea. Fernandes was able to level the record during United's win against Nottingham Forest, where there were many chances for him to break the record. But he was let down by his teammates who missed some clear cut chances.

Fernandes was voted as the Premier League Player Of The Year on Saturday and also won Premier League Writer Player of the Year award.
