Highest-grossing films of 2011

Year 2011 proved a good year for bollywood as many films were successful at the box office clearly outweighing the number of flop flicks. Let's have a look at the highest grossing films of this year

No One Killed Jessica
This film was based on the real life murder of model Jessica Lall. It was a huge grosser, earning Rs 29.25 crore. Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan joined forces and with their perfect onscreen acting delivered one of the best films of 2011.

Yamla Pagla Deewana
Yamla Pagla Deewana opened to a good response in India, raking in Rs 24 crore net over its first weekend and approximately Rs 35 crore net at the end of its first week. The film did particularly well in Punjab, Delhi and UP. The total worldwide gross of the film amounted to Rs 86.50 crore. The film was declared a Hit at the box office.

Tanu Weds Manu
Tanu Weds Manu collected Rs. 18.5 crore in its first week of release. The film held up well in its second week with collections of around Rs. 8.50 crore. The film was a hit in India and received most its collections from Delhi, UP and East Punjab.

F.A.L.T.U
According to Box office India, F.A.L.T.U got a good opening nationwide, but weakened in the third week. The film collected Rs 20 crore in its full theatrical run at the box office.

Pyar Ka Punchnama
Pyar Ka Punchnama got a slow opening at box office, but gradually the film picked up and did so well that enjoying its success, its sequel is also announced by its makers.

Ready
Ready has grossed Rs 121,25,00,000 in its theatrical run, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. At the time of release, it became Salman Khan's second back-to-back Rs 100 crore-plus film.

Delhi Belly
The film opened very well at the box office. It collected around Rs 36 crore in the first week of screening all around India and Rs 7.25 crore overseas. The film collected Rs 55 crore net gross in India by the end of its third week, being declared a super hit.

Murder 2
The film opened extremely well with full house almost everywhere across India with the occupancy ranging from 70-100 percent. The film grossed Rs 22.35 crore in its opening weekend. The film went on to gross Rs 36.5 crore in its first week, although collections were affected on due to the bomb blasts in Mumbai on July 13, 2011. Box Office India elevated the film to Blockbuster status after the second weekend.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Despite receiving average opening in the single screens except in the metro cities, the film grossed Rs 52.50 crore in its opening three-day weekend, including Rs 7.39 crore its first day. The film grossed Rs 12 crore overseas in three days, which made it the biggest opening for an Indian film in 2011.

Singham} has grossed Rs 97,75,00,000, making it eighth highest-grossing film of all time. The film became Ajay Devgn's biggest commercial success till date.

Bodyguard
Within the first day of its release, Bodyguard became the highest opening day grosser as well as the biggest grosser ever for a single day, breaking the record earlier held by Dabangg. The film went on to break many collection records, netting Rs 21.25 crore on its opening day, Rs 85.50 crore in its extended opening weekend and Rs 109.47 crore in its extended first week of business, and is currently the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan had a good opening with first day of Rs 7.50 crore net. It had a good first weekend of Rs 25.50 crore net. It was declared a hit after its net gross totalled Rs 57.25 crore in three weeks. At the end of its theatrical run the film netted Rs 94 crore worldwide.

Ra.One
Ra.One has grossed Rs 114,74,00,000, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. It set the record for a single-day collection, netting Rs 22.8 crore on its second day.

Rockstar
Upon release, Rockstar saw a very good opening. The film opened to a good response at multiplexes with collections averaging in the 60-70 percent range however single screens witnessed a lower capacity at around 30-40 percent. Rockstar collected Rs 10 crore net on it's opening day thus becoming the second highest opener after Ready in the non-festival season. The film on week three managed to gross Rs 2.96 crore and hence declared the film as Hit.

Desi Boyz
Desi Boyz opened to 50-65 percent occupancy in India and collected around Rs 9 crore on its first day. It had an opening weekend collection of Rs 28.5 crore, which was at best average considering the star cast and budget of the film. Its collections in the second week was around Rs 8 crore and its overall business in India is now Rs 46 crore after two weeks. The film grossed USD 26 million in the overseas market in 10 days. A hit and a profitable venture for its makers.

The Dirty Picture
The film opened strong, with 60-65 percent collections on average at multiplexes and had the 5th biggest opening of 2011. The opening was best in and around Maharashtra, with 80 percent and 75 percent openings respectively. On the first day, The Dirty Picture Hindi version had grossed around Rs 8.85 crore net, while the Telugu version had collected around Rs 20 lakh. By the end of the first week, the film netted a total of Rs 50 crore, in the process became the biggest opening ever for a women-oriented film in the history of Indian Cinema.
