Police found Pooja Dutta's decomposed body inside her locked rented flat in Bengaluru after neighbours complained of a foul smell. A post-mortem will determine the cause of death as investigators probe suicide and foul play.
The body of a 34-year-old woman was found in a decomposed condition at her rented flat in Bengaluru, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pooja Dutta, a native of Dhanbad in Jharkhand, who had recently quit her job at a private company and was unemployed.
The incident came to light on Monday after neighbours alerted authorities about a foul smell emanating from her house. A police team broke open the door to find her nude body in a decomposed state, lying in a pool of blood.
During inspection, officials recovered an ID card from a private company and found several torn papers scattered inside the room. No suicide note was recovered.
According to police, the woman may have died two to three days earlier. Preliminary suspicion is that she may have taken the extreme step after locking the door from inside, though all angles, including foul play, are being probed.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Once the autopsy report is received, it will be confirmed if it was a suicide or a murder, a senior police officer said.
Police said Dutta had been living in the rented accommodation for the past three years and was last seen on April 23 when she stepped out to buy groceries.
A case of unnatural death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
