Assembly Election 2026 Highlights: Voting has concluded for the 2026 Assembly elections across Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, alongside by-elections in Nagaland, Karnataka, and Tripura, with all three key states recording robust and, in some cases, record-breaking turnout. Assam registered around 85.38% polling, while Puducherry clocked an impressive 89.83%, both surpassing their previous highest turnout figures. Kerala, meanwhile, recorded a strong 78.03% voter participation. In Assam, 722 candidates contested 126 seats, with the election framed around Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s governance record versus the Congress campaign led by Gaurav Gogoi. Kerala’s 2.71 crore voters chose from 883 candidates across 140 constituencies in a contest largely between the ruling Left Democratic Front led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the opposition United Democratic Front. In Puducherry, about 9.5 lakh voters decided the fate of 294 candidates across 30 seats, with the NDA aiming to retain power amid a strong challenge from the INDIA bloc.
