Government re-introduces triple talak bill

Talaq-e-biddat refers to a practice of divorce under Muslim personal laws simply by pronouncing the word 'talaq' thrice in one sitting by a Muslim man to his wife. Under the triple talaq ordinance, divorcing through instant triple talaq is illegal, void and attracts a jail term of three years for the husband. This provision has raised many an eyebrow with leaders like Asaduddin Owaisi saying that three-year jail term amounts to discrimination against Muslim men.
