The Indian judicial history will certainly remember January 12, 2018 as a turning point and Justice Chelameswar shall always be remembered for creating a culture of dissent and argument in the convention-ridden dusted corridors of the Supreme Court.
Speaking after his retirement, Justice Chelameswar clarified that he had absolutely 'no regrets' either on speaking at the press conference or for his various letters in which he sought greater transparency and accountability.
"Ranjan Gogoi deserves to be the next CJI of India," argued Justice Chelameswar. He did not make any comment on the rumors of supercession and said that the convention must be honored and Justice Gogoi deserves every bit to be the next CJI. He further reiterated that the name of Uttarakhand Chief Justice KM Joseph must be reasserted to the Centre.
