The Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left front government in Kerala has been stung by a high-profile, multi-crore gold smuggling case.
On Thursday, the Kerala government suspended M Sivasankar pending inquiry into the gold smuggling case. This decision was taken days after he was removed as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
It has now been revealed that Swapna Suresh, the alleged mastermind of the case was appointed after the recommendation of suspended Principal Secretary M Sivasankar. Also, the gunman to the UAE consul general was found injured.
Besides the gold smuggling, Swapna Suresh has also been booked for providing fake certificates for getting a posting in a project under the state IT department, from which she has been removed after her name cropped up in the smuggling racket.
