The entire cabin was filled with smoke, some people couldn't breathe, said the passenger of a Jabalpur-bound SpiceJet flight that returned to Delhi after the crew noticed smoke inside the cabin.
Saurabh Chhabra, a passenger, said, "Our flight was at 6.15 am. After 2-3 mins of taking off, we could smell something... We started panicking, some people couldn't breathe. Then they made an emergency landing. We landed at 7 am, after which we got to know that the smoke was coming out of engine fans."
While passing 5000ft, the flight crew noticed smoke in the cabin while the lavatory smoke alarm went off. The cabin crew immediately informed the cockpit crew. However, on a visual check, no sign of smoke or damage was observed.
Climbing further, the smoke in the cabin increased, following which a return was initiated. The aircraft landed safely at the Delhi airport.
Saurabh said, "There was smoke in the entire cabin... We splashed water on our masks to breathe properly. There were some children and senior citizens who started coughing."
