Trinamool leader, Sheikh Shahjahan's close aide, arrested in Sandeshkhali case

West Bengal Police arrested Trinamool Congress leader Shibaprasad Hazra alias Shibu Hazra on Saturday in connection with a case of sexual harassment filed by women in Sandeshkhali.

The police added charges of gang rape against TMC leaders Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, who are close aides of Sheikh Shahjahan, in the case.

A case was filed against Shibaprasad and Uttam a few days back based on a written complaint filed by the women of Sandeshkhali.

West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar said the police had talked to “almost everyone” in Sandeshkhali and a special women’s team has been created to probe the allegations.

“If there is any allegation against any person, including police personnel, we will take strict legal action against anyone,” he said.

The DGP said that no complaints were filed before February 6 and till now, only one woman has complained before the magistrate.
