Demonetisation and the GST -- back-to-back -- have crippled the diamond industry in Surat, Gujarat. People who resorted to turning to the city for business have only been met with disappointment in recent times, as tales of pay cuts and job loss echo.

A similar situation is faced by Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to develop into a smart city. The MSME sector of the city has been suffering the most.

Job loss has also impacted the garment and textile industry in Madhya Pradesh's Indore.
