Delhi Dehradun Expressway Inauguration highlights: A major boost to road travel in North India as the much-awaited expressway promises faster, smoother connectivity between Delhi and Dehradun.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Delhi–Dehradun Expressway on Tuesday, April 14, marking a major boost to road connectivity in North India.
The 213-km-long Greenfield corridor is set to cut travel time between the two cities from around 6 hours to just 2–2.5 hours.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 12,000–13,000 crore, begins near Akshardham in Delhi and passes through key districts of Uttar Pradesh including Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur, before reaching Dehradun. Developed by the NHAI, the expressway will also connect with the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, improving regional connectivity.
Featuring a six-lane access-controlled design with a speed limit of 100 kmph, the corridor includes 14 wayside amenities, multiple bridges, interchanges, and rail overbridges.
A key highlight is its wildlife-friendly design, including a 12-km elevated corridor, one of the longest in Asia, along with elephant underpasses and animal crossings to minimise ecological impact.
