Nita Ambani's special gift for chef Vikas Khanna: A dazzling peacock brooch

Chef Vikas Khanna, who recently made it to TIME magazine's 100 most influential people list, received an ornate brooch from Nita Ambani.

Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani gifted chef Vikas Khanna a special brooch ahead of the TIME100 Gala event in New York.

Khanna, who was named in TIME magazine’s coveted list of the 100 most influential people in the world, shared a video of the moment along with a heartfelt note on Instagram.

The ornate, bedazzling brooch featuring a peacock motif was from Ambani’s Swadesh initiative. Swadesh is a premium, artisan-only retail brand launched by Reliance Retail to promote Indian heritage, handcrafted products.

“I feel deeply honoured to wear India’s national bird, the peacock, through this beautiful brooch by Swadesh, gifted by Nita Ambani. Swadesh, an initiative of Reliance Foundation, is very close to my heart. It empowers Indian artisans and brings their heritage to the global stage,” Khanna wrote in the caption.

“For me, it is not just about preserving the past, it is about carrying it forward with pride,” he added.

Ambani personally pinned the brooch on Khanna’s stylish jacket.

Nita Ambani, meanwhile, looked graceful in a Jamdani drape woven over two years by Padma Shri awardee Biren Kumar Basak. The ivory drape was embroidered with tribal motifs in a soft pastel palette. A pearl necklace and an emerald earring and ring set added to the regal appeal.

Now, back to the brooch. Khanna proudly flaunted it with his striped black suit at the star-studded TIME100 Gala event which was also attended by Hailey Bieber, Dakota Johnson, Mr Beast and David Beckham, among others.

As for Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna, he currently runs the restaurant Bungalow in New York. The restaurant is known for its global Indian menu and has a months-long waiting list for reservations.

In an emotional Instagram post, Khanna described his inclusion in TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people as “a moment for Indian cuisine, for our culture, for every story that began in a humble kitchen.”

Cheers to a journey that began in the narrow lanes of Amritsar and the langars of the Golden Temple, and has now reached one of the world’s most influential platforms.
