Suriya's Karuppu releases in Pune amid delay in South states, videos go viral
Suriya's Karuppu released in Pune after its morning shows were cancelled across several southern states over unpaid dues. The patchy rollout has put focus on the film's pending payments.

Suriya and Trisha Krishnan's Karuppu appears to have been released in Pune after videos of the film's title card went viral on social media. The development came after the film's morning screenings in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka were cancelled at the last minute over the production house's unpaid dues.
SR Prabu, the producer of Karuppu, announced the cancellation of the 9 am shows and apologised to fans. While comments on X said the viral title-card videos were filmed at a theatre in Pune, it remained unclear whether the film was still running there and in other northern states. Its release in the southern states was still uncertain.
According to reports, Suriya has stepped in to address the financial issues linked to the film. Dream Warrior Pictures, led by SR Prabu, is reported to have unpaid dues of over Rs 50 crore to multiple people. Reports said Suriya would clear the dues related to Karuppu, while the production house would have to resolve the remaining issues separately.
At the centre of the delay is a reported Rs 50 crore in unsettled dues in Tamil Nadu. In the Tamil film industry, the KDM, or Key Delivery Message, is the secure digital key needed to screen a film in theatres, and it is often withheld until pending payments are cleared.
The unsettled dues appear to have become a major obstacle in Karuppu reaching theatres on time.
The financial strain was also reportedly worsened by unpaid location charges linked to EVP Studios near Chennai. These pending dues are said to have created a financial bottleneck, preventing the final clearance required for distribution. The latest development indicated that the RJ Balaji directorial could released later in the evening if the financial issues are sorted out.
Karuppu stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, with Yogi Babu, Jaffer Sadiq, Mansoor Ali Khan and Indrans in supporting roles. The film has music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by GK Vishnu and stunt choreography by Anbariv.
