As protests continue in Mumbai over felling of over 2,500 trees in Aarey Colony for the proposed car shed for Mumbai Metro 3, a special bench of the Supreme Court will hear the case today. This came after the Supreme Court converted a letter to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi by a law student seeking a stay on the cutting of trees as public interest litigation.
Clashes broke out in Mumbai over axing of trees by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd in Aarey Colony. Following protests, activists were arrested on charges of allegedly obstructing and assaulting. On Sunday, however, 29 protesters were granted bail by a sessions court in Mumbai.
