Uddhav Thackeray's govt is battling its worst crisis since coming to power after senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde rebelled against the party and herded some MLAs to BJP-ruled Gujarat.

Meanwhile, in a damage control exercise, Uddhav Thackeray sent two of his close confidants to Surat, where Shinde is camping with other rebel Sena MLAs in a hotel, to meet the rebel leader and also spoke to him over the phone in a bid to defuse the crisis.
