Article 370, combined with Article 35A, accorded Jammu and Kashmir special status under the Constitution of India, allowing it to have a separate constitution and a separate penal code among other legal distinctions. Less than a year after being appointed the first Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir, Girish Chandra Murmu submitted his resignation on Wednesday. It was later announced that the new LG of J&K would be BJP leader and former Union Minister Manoj Singh.
