Citizens of nowhere: 80% Assam residents fail NRC test, villagers turn to gods

Declared 'illegals' in their own land, over 19 lakh residents of India have been excluded from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list released on August 31. The fate of these people now lies in the hands of the Foreigners' Tribunals courts where they need to file appeals to argue their case for citizenship.

The residents of Pub Malaybari village of Kamrup district, located over 100 km from Guwahati, in Assam are in shock. Most of the villagers have now turned to gods after they were left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
