Looking to break the pressure, the batter reached out for a boundary but dragged the ball back onto his stumps off an inside edge. It was a telling moment that reflected both Mukesh’s control with the ball and his ability to stay composed under pressure.

Choudhary was named in the playing XI for his first game of the season, with CSK confirming on social media that the team would wear black armbands in his mother’s memory. “In her memory and in solidarity with Mukesh, we wear black armbands and play with a little more in our hearts today,” the franchise said on X.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first, meaning Choudhary is expected to feature with the ball later in the innings. His presence on the field came as a poignant moment, underlining both personal strength and team solidarity during an emotionally challenging period.

According to reports by Dainik Bhaskar, Mukesh’s mother, Prem Devi, passed away on Tuesday after being unwell for nearly a year. She had been undergoing treatment at the Tata Hospital in Mumbai. The left-arm pacer, who had been with his team during the ongoing Indian Premier League, immediately travelled to Bhilwara upon receiving the news.

He reportedly reached his maternal village on Tuesday evening and performed the final rites alongside his elder brother, Dr Rajesh. Mukesh, who hails from Pardodas village in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, comes from a family that has long been based in Maharashtra, where his father Gopal Choudhary runs a business.

In a further show of support, it was reported that MS Dhoni stood by the family during this period. A family friend claimed that the former India captain not only boosted Mukesh’s morale but also visited the hospital to meet his mother.

Choudhary’s decision to return to action so soon after such a personal loss added a deeply emotional layer to the high-profile encounter, with CSK’s tribute reflecting the unity within the squad.
