Though the tech giant has some big shoes to fill with the iPhone 18 Pro series this year following the success of the iPhone 17 series.
The iPhone 17 Pro models in particular, marked a major step for Apple with a new design, a switch back to aluminium, and a vapour cooling chamber. However, the tech giant is likely planning for some big changes this year too, for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Before we begin, do note that Apple will likely skip the vanilla iPhone 18 during its fall event this year. Instead, the base iPhone 18 is expected to launch in early 2027.
iPhone 18 Pro design and display
Rumours indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro models may follow a similar design to the iPhone 17 Pro. The upcoming Apple flagships will likely continue to have an aluminium unibody, and a large camera plateau on the back.
However, Apple is expected to keep things fresh. As per reports, the iPhone 18 Pro devices will come in a unified single-tone colour scheme, instead of the two-tone design on the iPhone 17 Pro models. Following the buzz around the Cosmic Orange shade, the iPhone 18 Pro may debut in burgundy or a deep red colour.
On the display front, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain the 6.3-inch OLED screen, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely come with the same 6.9-inch OLED panel from last year. But the Dynamic Island on both phones will likely be smaller.
Recent leaks have surfaced, claiming that the iPhone 18 Pro may get a 35 per cent smaller Dynamic Island when compared to last year. This is reportedly possible due to the relocation of Face ID sensors beneath the screen, allowing for a smaller cutout.

The iPhone 18 Pro models will likely come with notable performance improvements. Both devices are expected to use the yet-to-be-announced A20 Pro chipset. As per reports, the new chipset will be built on a 2nm process, expected to deliver up to 15 per cent faster performance and 30 per cent better energy efficiency compared to the A19 Pro.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max may also feature a larger battery, estimated between 5,100 and 5,200mAh. For context, the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s battery capacity for the eSIM only variant was 5,088mAh battery. Though the Indian variant came with a 4,823mAh cell.

Apple is expected to retain the triple-rear camera setup for the iPhone 18 Pro models from last year, that is, three 48-megapixel sensors – a primary, an ultrawide, and a 4x telephoto lens.
Though it is rumoured that Apple is planning to bring variable aperture on the main lens to allow greater control over exposure and depth of field. The main and telephoto sensors may also deliver improved low-light performance. A new three-layer stacked sensor, possibly supplied by Samsung, may enhance image quality by reducing noise and improving dynamic range.
