Upcoming Maruti three-row EV spotted testing ahead of expected 2026 debut
Maruti Suzuki's first-ever three-row electric MPV has been spotted testing ahead of its expected 2026 debut, hinting at SUV-inspired styling, shared e Vitara underpinnings and a family-focused EV package.

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming three-row electric vehicle has been spotted testing, offering a glimpse at what is expected to become the brand’s first all-electric MPV for India. Internally codenamed YMC, the upcoming EV is widely believed to share its core architecture and powertrain components with the recently introduced e Vitara.
The heavily camouflaged test mule hints at a practical family-focused design with SUV-inspired proportions. Its upright stance, long rear overhang and extended rear quarter section strongly suggest a three-row layout, while the absence of an exhaust outlet further indicates its electric underpinnings.
At the front, the YMC appears to borrow several styling elements from the e Vitara, including a layered bumper design and similar lower air intake treatment. The MPV also rides on aero-style alloy wheels, which are increasingly common on EVs to improve aerodynamic efficiency and maximise range. Unlike the e Vitara, however, the YMC seems to adopt a cleaner and more conventional design language with flatter body panels and regular pull-type door handles instead of flush units.
The side profile reveals squared wheel arches, a long roofline and a relatively flat window line, all of which are typical traits aimed at maximising cabin space. Towards the rear, vertically oriented tail lamps stretching around the windscreen appear to be linked by a connecting light bar, giving the vehicle a modern appearance. The rear section also gets a chunky bumper and a rear wiper, while the roof tapers slightly for a more streamlined silhouette.
The YMC is expected to be based on the same skateboard EV platform as the e Vitara and could use the identical battery pack options, a smaller 49kWh unit and a larger 61kWh pack. While official specifications are still under wraps, the larger battery variant could deliver a driving range of around 500km or more on a full charge, although the heavier and larger body may slightly reduce efficiency compared to the e Vitara.
Maruti is also expected to share several cabin features with the e Vitara. Higher variants could offer a dual-screen setup integrating the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, along with features such as automatic climate control, wireless charging, reclining seats and a panoramic sunroof.
Safety is likely to be a key focus as well. The upcoming EV MPV is expected to feature Level 2 ADAS technology with functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring. Standard safety equipment could include seven airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and parking sensors.
Positioned as a premium electric people mover, the YMC is expected to rival upcoming offerings such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Mahindra XEV 9S.
The production version of the YMC is expected to make its global debut towards the end of 2026, with market launch likely in 2027. Like the e Vitara, the model will also spawn a Toyota sibling for both domestic and export markets.
