Two children drowned in a pond near a golf course in Gurugram’s DLF Phase 3 area on Thursday evening, police said. The incident took place between 6 pm and 7 pm when four children allegedly jumped over the boundary wall of the restricted golf ground near Catrina Apartment to bathe in the pond.

According to the initial police investigation, the pond is nearly 60 to 70 feet wide, around 200 to 250 feet long, and approximately 18 feet deep. The four children — identified as Krishna alias Bhondu (10), Adarsh (11), Ankush, and Aditya — were residents of Nathupur and lived there on rent with their families.

Police said Krishna and Adarsh drowned while bathing in the pond, while the other two children managed to escape and rushed home to inform their families about the incident. After receiving the information, the families alerted Gurugram Police.

A police team immediately reached the spot and launched a search operation. The bodies of the two children were later recovered from the pond and taken into custody for postmortem examination. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The pond is located inside a high-security VVIP zone near the golf ground adjoining Catrina Apartment. Security arrangements in the area are reportedly handled by private guards deployed around the Ambience Mall vicinity.

The incident has raised serious questions over security arrangements and safety measures around the deep water body. Police are now investigating whether there was any negligence in securing the area and preventing unauthorized access to the pond.
